You don’t work if you think playing and preparing for sports is the same as work. Your cubical and bike ride doesn’t give you any perspective.

It was a general statement about players that factor into NIL

You chose to funnel the conversation to scholar athletes that will never have a chance to make money professionally.

The premise never changes; you are worth whatever someone is willing to pay you.

It's still work, just different shite. Just like working on an oil rig is different from working as a pilot, which is different from working as an accountant, which is different from working as a cashier at McDonalds'.

Again, where did you play?

You’re the one saying they’re the same so thanks for acknowledging you were wrong.

Stop glazing these dudes, my god. I have never once said they shouldn’t be paid.

You’re crying for kids making more money than you most likely I don’t feel bad for them like you do, it’s the difference

Huh? I said playing sports is still a job and can require hard work. I never once said it was the exact same as working a desk job.

I didn't. You made a blanket statement.

It applies to super stars as well.

Are you assuming super star college athletes shouldn't be subject to such an arrangement because regular working people wouldn't agree to such an arrangement?

Yes, as are you assuming you are not self-employed.

So if a player has a successful YouTube channel you think the NCAA should be able to ban him from making any money off of that?
Of course. It’s their organization they should be allowed to make rules for their members.

The players are not forced to be there

My bad, you said that playing sports professionally isn't a job.

I don't feel bad for them at all. They are making a shite ton of money. Good for them. It seems like you are upset that some people get paid more than you and also have a more enjoyable job.

No you said playing sports isn't the same as work. It is still work, it's just a different type of work, just like everything else.

Jesus man, you literally have to get the last word in. It’s why I stopped responding to you.

College athletics is not a job. Brother, my income and life is fine. You are just assuming a ton of things.

He says stupid shite then backpedals saying he didn’t. This is the mindset that created and still supports this chaos. No accountability and pure ignorance.

Nah that was because you were wrong. You didn't think that NFL players were compensated outside of their salaries.

It is 100x better than any “job” out there, since you all love to throw the word around. Nothing like getting an all expense paid plus a salary for playing a game.

This statement by you reeks of jealousy. Nobody in this thread is saying that being a professional athlete isn't awesome. We all know it is.

College athletes were already some of the most privileged people on the planet. I don't think most people understand the true value of being able to put on the LSU uniform because it can't be quantified with a $ amount. Just look at how many former LSU players were able to leverage their name recognition to become successful in life, regardless of whether they made it to the pro level in their sport.

Look, I don't hate people for wanting to maximize their value, and I would probably do the same thing if I was a college athlete in this day and age. But the notion that college athletes were an oppressed and exploited class before NIL existed (which many actually believe) is a complete lie.

Film, weights, class, study hall, and practice. Did I miss the grueling schedule

You missed travel which makes it harder to keep up studies. Media events and prep for the same. Hosting recruits on weekends. Not being able to go home to visit family. Curfews. Team meetings and position meetings. arriving before regular students arrive to school. Training room on top of all of this if injured. getting taped, weighed, untaped, weighed. Make up tests and assigments. Doctors visits for injuries and mental health since athletes are highly succeptable to such issues do pressures other students do not face. As a note, 30% of D1 schools do not pay for basic medical insurance for their athletes, only the catastrophic insurance over $90K so the athlete has to come up with the money for this on there own. insurance is expensive. there is no time to work to pay for this. On top of this, there is very little time for social life to catch a movie or go on a date. Typical days are 5:30AM to 9:30PM with homework/studying often lasting til midnight. days are longer if you travel and even worse for sports like baseball and softball. being on campus for most of the summer break. not going home for thanksgiving, christmas, or having a spring break. So yeah, it’s a job. For you to say they are just playing a game vastly understates the time commitment and various assorted obligations of the players. Also, having your medical issues disclosed to the public, having your failures highlighted on websites and news shows like and being called garbage, etc, and having all of your actions in public being scrutinize makes it even more difficult. On top of it, your bosses yell, curse you out, and belittle you at practice and on TV and then talk to the media about you. But right, they are just playing a game.
