It's time for Congress to tell him what to do with his silly budget proposal.

Don't think it will pass Congress and he can't do a budget on his own....only the House and Senate can do that so they would have to go along

Buddy that does tax consulting told me that the new white house budget proposal has a section to eliminate the tax deduction for charitable contributions that are a prerequisite for purchasing college sporting event tickets.

Actually, I was always surprised we could deduct it in the first place.

bullshite...The TAF money is used to support all athletics not just football. That helps students. Plus how many millions does football give back to the university. The government is collecting more tax revenue that ever but its never enough for the socialists.

Probably the wrong board for this discussion, but since it is here ....... just the continuing Obama March to socialism & big government - developing an entitled population dependent upon the government, even healthcare now - while this is probably a loophole in the tax code, many middle class fans, like I, are dependent upon the deduction to continue to "support" the student athletes that in turn produce the athletic department profit that give $ 9-10 mil a year to the university

Yep. And it's never enough for the capitalists who use their big corporations to scare the middle class into thinking the Democrats are taking their money while they change the tax code so that they don't have to pay any taxes.

So you give money to watch football, that money is in turn used to fund non revenue producing sports, and pay money to the university. Sounds like redistribution of wealth to me.

And at the same time you argue against big government, you want the federal government to help subsidize college athletics with tax incentives?

Please tell me what corporation "doesn't have to pay taxes"? I hear this thrown around all of the time and it baffles me.

I have Tennessee season tickets and have heard the same thing regarding our Tennessee Fund donations. Sucks.

Since we a part of the same country it would apply to both schools.

Donations to TAF should not be tax deductible; donations to the academic side should be.

Donations to churches shouldn't be tax deductible; donations to Médecins Sans Frontières, the Red Cross/Red Crescent, American Cancer Society, hell even charitable church ministries like Catholic Ministries or the local food bank should be.

And don't get me started on political 501(c)(3)'s.

I am amazed the deduction has lasted this long. How is something that is not optional considered a charitable contribution?

But the NFL is the only major sport that is non-profit. I say tax the cr-p out of the NFL just like all the rest.
And tax them triple on all the freebies each team gets from the state taxpayers!!

Why pick on college sports, Barack? Let's eliminate ALL charitable contribution deductions. I encourage giving to whatever charity you like. Catholic church or Islamic mosque. NRA or ACLU. But don't ask the American taxpayer (the 50% of us who actually pay taxes) to subsidize your cause.
