King Joey, you make some good points, but my issue is not winning the NC, or maybe even the SEC, are you OK with being 4-5th in a 7 team conf 10 of last 12 years! Ok so we can never beat UG/Ala (not sure I am ok with this, but ok), we are not beating UF either and Ark who has only had a program for 10 years passed us up this year. Also, I disagree, NO COACH should call it "their" program imo. So tell me, you ok with being 4-5 in SEC, and having same coach for 35 years+ you find this acceptable? for how much longer? I would like to see a new coach who can maybe get us higher in SEC, and maybe one who also can do so with a reasonable ego and less headaches for so many in our Admin- this part is just opinion, but being lower half in sec is a fact....something needs to change imo

If I'm not mistaken, the Gym program's senior class is all hurt.

I am not an expert of softball but looking at a few box scores in the last few games Mack and Fico are not living up to your "A+++" status. They combined to give up 10 runs on Sunday and 8 runs last night. Not going to win many softball games when you give up 10 and 8 runs.

Agreed. Bama,UT and Georgia have better pitchers and more over all talent. New coach inherited these players.

There's one senior on the team and she was a walk on.

I'm not saying Breaux is the best coach out there, but when you have a sport that nationally has a limited number of participants and the top 30-50 go the professional/olympics route, there's very little left to pick from.

Those remaining are all going to go after UF, UGA, Bama first. Combine that with our lack of facilities for the sport and Breax isn't exactly dealt a good hand.

Nothing concrete. Just the vibe I got. I could be totally wrong on that.

Wait, you are bitching about a sport you don't even follow I can read and still waiting for someone to tell me that 4-5th out of 7 in 10 of last 12 years in SEC and no sec champs in 35 years with same coach is acceptable….

Exactly, why do we lose the best to 3 other SEC schools (and now Arkansas). Facilities were re-done 12 years ago and we did not win. They need to be updated, but come on we have decades of history,100’s of athletes have come and gone, and we are at best mediocre in our own conference with schools that we compete with in every other sport. Not saying all the coach, but can anyone name ANY coach EVER who over 25 years (not even 35) at same school and not won a conference title in 30+ years, finished in bottom half of conf 10 of last 12 years..Not sure this has EVER occurred in ANY sport or ANY conference ever. If LSU fans are OK with this fine, but I am not, in any sport.

and to be clear, I am NOT making judgement on sb coach, I like her and agree she needs a few years at least...but still worried about this team, the hitting is killing us and think we have talent to be top 15 team if we can get focused for end of season

nolatiger,
I've had softball season tickets for over a decade now...I was excited at LSU hiring a young coach...thought she's inject new energy and enthusiasm into the program...instead, with SEC caliber elite pitching we continue to lose, our infied continue to pile up the errors, & the team seems to have forgotten the fundamentals of softball! Coach Torina rarely uses pinch runners when speed would be a plus, stands in the 3rd base coach's box with her arms folded looking like she's bored to tears...the team has taken on her lack of enthusiasm...last night against FSU the team was abysmal! Since Torina arrived the girls rarely chant in support of their team, which is a softball tradition; Coach Torina does not come talk to the boosters before or after games just to get to know the team's supporters; the first base coach has made a number of errors in directing the players in base-running...frankly, the fans are getting restless. We certainly didn't expect greatness, but we did expect fundamental softball and competency! Dobson has raised the overall team batting average, but not by much and that's understandable...I don't know how much coaching goes on in practice, but if there's any going on during the game, it must be by telepathy, 'cause you sure can't see it. Brittany Mack was the No.1 player selected in the pro draft...why? Because she can throw "junk" pitches better than anyone in the country. Coach G has commented that she's got a pitch that no one in the country can hit...so why did our coach call for Mack to throw fast balls agt TN? Fans are perplexed; nothing but silence from the coach; natives are getting restless!

Thanks geaugrll!!! That was very informative, I am not nearly as informed as you, but in the 4 games I have been to, something seemed off, I do think a new coach deserves a few years, but the last few weeks have not been good, with ole miss coming in be good chance to get back on win steak..and the UT game from 2-0 to 2-10 was brutal

Considering LSU went to the Super Six in 2008 and 2009... yes. It is acceptable, particularly since LSU hasn't missed the tournament since 1984. And in 2010, Susan Jackson won two individual titles. A Lady Tiger has won an individual title 7 times in the past 10 years.

Yes, I find this to be an acceptable level of acheivement for a non-revenue sport that doesn't move the needle.

Find me all of the programs that have been to the Super Six twice in the past five years. I'm willing to bet it is a short list.

Beth was a pitcher at Florida. Hopefully she can do something good for Fico and Patterson before they leave and get a pitcher who can pitch in the league. As for hitting, which is the main problem, I don't know if most of these players Girourd signed will ever hit SEC pitching. She went from coast to coast and signed players from every corner and not many panned out in the league so far. Her evaluation of talent may have been lacking. I hope the best for all the girls but if that new stadium is to be used in the future there needs to be a big improvement.

Exactly. It's the same players who haven't been good hitters their whole careers. They weren't going to become Kirsten Shortridge's just because we hired a new coach.

they also signed a top recruit from Las vegas that'll be joining the team next year. They'll be AT LEAST in the top-5, so it'll be tough for you to bitch come next season

here's a better indication of our gymnastic's program

As for the softball program-relative to the SEC, we're a dumpster fire. She's signed arguably the top pitcher out of California for 2014, and she has a great class coming in for 2013. The roster is young right now, anyways, given we start on average 3-4 freshmen a game. Give the coach some time, Jesus.
