Yeah, well a supposedly elite program can’t be historically bad either. No one with any sense should have expected a repeat of last year... losses to the likes of Bama, Florida, Auburn, etc. shouldn’t have surprised anyone with all of the losses and coaching turnover. But Missouri? frickING Missouri?!?! No excuse. Clueless players, horrible coaching, and players flat out quitting on plays is what is going on right now. That’s fricking ridiculous.

Maybe so, maybe not, but he deserves enough time to get this right. Let's see how the season plays out, but I agree that if things don't change drastically he needs at least be on the warm seat next year

“If you want to blame it on someone, blame it on me.”
Coach Ed Orgeron

He gets 2 seasons to get it right. If it’s anywhere close to the shiteshow we are now in 2022, he needs to be fired immediately.

Eh. If we were a 3, 4 maybe even 5 loss team this year on a regular schedule, most would say this.

This is a Gene Chizik kind of year and if we end up only winning a few games, or even running a .500 - any competent AD would be completely justified in making a change.

Coaches are allowed to have down years, within explanation. There's a big difference in a down year and an utter catastrophe.

this is his team now. his full recruiting cycle. his coaching staff. no wonderkid QB falling in his lap.

Chase, Marshall, Queen, Stingley, CEH are all from his recruiting cycle. And he brought in burrow also. Nothing fell in his lap and it’s a weak argument to even suggest 2020 was accidental. So to me he’s already “fixed” it once and deserves another shot.

burrow being available was a wonderkid QB falling into his lap. he beat out Cincinnati with a coach on staff with ties to his family. you think that gets O a pass for failure?

fixed what? 2020 is his mess. he hired Bo Pelini and made him the highest-paid DC in football. he hired Linehan.

there obviously are some other issues going on with the team and its attitude, togetherness, etc.

do you mean "fixed" as in "had a once in a lifetime QB fall into his lap AFTER being developed for 3 years by one of the GOAT offensive coaches in CFB, where we didn't have to develop him at all"? if you think that is fixing, this is always going to be "broken" afterwards b/c that ain't happening again

and that's the offense (where i'm not even being critical). there is no justification for this defense

Pure conjecture. He needed a QB and went out and got one. Do you not like facts and being right for a change?

Funny you’d use the term “works” because it’s not working. Great coaches like Bellicheck and you know who always stress the fact that once a season is over, even when you win it, you start from scratch and have the same expectations as before. That’s how champions conduct their programs, they don’t say “oh well we won so we’ll just take a couple years off and live off that title.” That’s what a piker does. I’m not saying Os doing that but you’re excusing it if he would and that’s just unacceptable. If you think we’re an elite program or striving to be you better get that type of thinking out of your head.

For every Belichick there’s 50 washed up NFL has beens. Doesn’t mean you don’t aspire to be the best, but you also don’t fire a coach and call him a colossal failure after one bad season. Especially after he won you the entire thing, a prospect that seemed near impossible even 5 years ago. And this is all coming from someone who hated the Orgeron hire.

O hired these clowns. Does he just get a pass to flush millions down the toilet?

After last year? Of course he fricking does.

He’s already proven that he won’t sit around for long and wait for bad hires to pan out (Matt Canada, and that Auburn frick whose name escapes me). Pelini will be gone next year.

But to your original point, yes, he absolutely gets a pass to flush millions down the toilet. He could literally host a bon fire built out of $10M of LSU cash if he wanted to.

But I’m not saying that he should be fired or is a colossal failure. I’m also not saying he has the attitude you’re excusing. I’m saying that attitude inevitably brings failure nobody should have it.

Ok, so we actually agree then. LSU should not settle for this attitude but Orgeron does deserve a shot to fix it. If he can’t, we move on. That’s fair.

It's okay that he makes shitty hires because he will quickly fire those shitty hires to make room for new ones!

This is not a free pass. He makes more shitty hires and he’s gone. But the NC does buy him one cycle. It absolutely does.
