What does that have to do with anything?

2018 class is even worse. Ed's recruiting is vastly overrated. He's a good bagman and set of boots on the ground, but simply cannot successfully manage the long term maintenance of a roster.

Never waste an opportunity to shite on Ed do you Damone? You just have the weirdest hate boner for that man.

That was a nice class. You left of ricks, gilbert, shanahan, cox, mcglothern, dumervil, and guillory. All those players started at lsu or were in the 2 deep.

Ricks and Gilbert and Mcglothern don’t play for LSU so that doesn’t help LSU any.

He’s talking about probable starters this season, like the OP did with the 2019 class, not the class as a whole.

It would be an interesting case study to do the % of an original signing class staying all 4 years with the portal now across the SEC

I think so too. Kelly talks a lot about being intentional. I think a big part of their recruiting philosophy with focusing on kids all throughout Louisiana (specifically NLA that had been somewhat neglected) that have a pride in the home state flagship, the character profile for the type of guys they’re looking for, the “Graduate Champions” slogan, etc…is intended to find not just great players, but players who will stick around and be willing to get developed and wait their turn if necessary.

He’ll always use the portal to fill immediate holes and supplement with great players who may want to join the program, but I think he’ll depend upon it less and less and wants the foundation to be high school recruits and the majority of the starters to be 3rd and 4th year guys who’ve been developed in the program. And while there will always be attrition as long as the portal exists, I bet we’re up there with Bama as far as retention and average age of starters before too long, especially along the lines.

The rest are still searching for Joe Brady’s offense.

Should given the HC a character test before he was hired.

This is false. Who should he have gotten that he did not, and who did he take he should not have? Please link the posts from the recruiting board pointing this out.

2018-2019 is partly why our roster is gutted. Thanks O. Great evaluations.

He did the same thing at Ole Miss. he recruited very well there especially for their standards but he couldn't evaluate talent for shite, develop them, or make the right personnel decisions. He ran into the same problems at LSU and look where we are now. There's more to throwing an offer on a table to recruit who the scouting department thinks might develop to the next level. The coach has to take the responsibility to properly evaluate the talent and if they can develop them. Between the coaching, his personnel decisions, and his evaluations on who should be getting the ship offers he failed those 2 classes. Some of it was not in his control the vast majority was.

Here are the OL from the class. This wasn't a good percentage. Anthony Bradford is starting, but that's 1 out of 5. Thomas & Turner still on team, but not starting. Parker & Perry no longer on team.

Turner's weight 245?

Kardell Thomas was the highest rated of the group and doesn't look like he'll be a starter.

So, this #1 class, nationally, yields 5 starters (including the placekicker) and 3 others (including what must be considered a critical backup at LT) down the depth chart over this same period.
Everybody that has good talent faces a lot of transfers and early exits and I know that's what you're getting at, but let's look at Bama's 2020 undeated run and see how many from that group were playing in the 2 deep by year four...

Bama 2017 class and who played in 2020 (starters in bold)

Najee Harris
Alex Leatherwood
Dylan Moses
LaBryan Ray
Devonta Smith

Jarez Parks
Phidarian Mathis
Christopher Allen
Daniel Wright

Brian Robinson
Kendall Randolph
Major Tennison
Mac Jones
Joseph Bulovas
Thomas Fletcher

The top 11 players on this 15 player list were top 180 recruits. They got 11 top 180 recruits to stick around 4 years. Thirteen of the 15 were 4 star recruits. Two of their six 4 stars left early for the first round, the rest stayed. They had 11 starters in their fourth years play for them. That's why they bust everybody's asses.

IMO, I don't think Bama will be this unstoppable team this year either. A lot of people think so because of them being Bama, their transfers, their heisman winner, and their pass rush. Some idiots expect it to be their best team, some think it will be better than last year, I personally think they'll be similar to last year meaning LSU has a chance.

I'd feel a whole lot better about our secondary if he was still here. I don't blame him for leaving but he could've used one more year in college IMO.

I agree with the spirit of the post entirely, but for accuracy's sake, did I miss Emery and Kardell Thomas leaving the team?

Edit: N/m I thought post was players still on the team
