Smith trying for second was not a mistake. Keep trying to be a bitch though.

Did our CF misjudged that double, maybe lost it in the glare

yes the frick it was. stay at first and have beau bunt him over then have papierksi swing away with smith on 2nd. extends the inning and gives us a chance to start at the top of the lineup instead of the 8 spot

3 walks in stow didn't help.

It absolutely was not a mistake. He was the tying run trying to get into scoring position on a ball in the gap with one out. The guy made a good play to cut it off and even better throw.

To the poster above, we weren't going to bunt him to second with one out.

I think 2 too many. Gave a precious out away in 7th and 8th innings. I agree that outs on base we're more costly than the early walks.

The ball wasn't deep in the gap and the play was in front of Josh. 8th inning and outs are at a premium. Should have held up at one.

Obviously he should have stayed now that we know the outcome, but it wasn't a mistake while the play was unfolding.

It absolutely was. The ball was in front of him and he's not that fast.

Ok, so baseball odds and strategy are negated by the old "hindsight" argument.

I get what you are saying about scoring position but that play was right in front of him. We need base runners at that point.

It's like Kramer throwing home on the bases loaded pop up. Situational baseball.

We were down by 1, not 3. We needed the tying run in scoring position. If the score was 4-1, with his RBI on the hit making it 4-2, it would be a completely different story and I would agree with your point.

I understand the move. I just hated it because I was already thinking about the ninth and didn't want 8,9,1. However, even with Smith on first, pap could have given us the lead with a bomb. That's a tough move in right center to get to second. Also, the fielder is left handed and that allows him to get in line to make that throw quicker.

It took an absolute strike to get him, and even then, he looked safe on the replay. It was a solid gamble.
