One other thing about the defense...

Did anyone else notice that our defense actually TACKLED last night instead of going for big spectacular hits?
I get so sick of headhunters looking for highlight-reel hits instead of, you know, stopping the ball carrier from advancing?
The speed and swarming on defense was amazing, but even moreso was the fact that I didn't see any defenders bounce off of a ball carrier going for a knockout, only to see a whiff that gave up an additional 5 yards.
Signs of good things to come (I hope).

According to PFF the defense had 11 missed tackles

It was also good seeing them just go back to their position instead of peacocking like they just got the hit of the year after every tackle. That’s the result of good coaching.

I did, and I was pleasantly surprised with their tackling in the open field in particular. LSU has some real studs on defense. Ross was spectacular last night.

How is that defined.
I think we had a sack or TFL where the d lineman missed but then recovered and still made a TFL.

Is a missed tackle graded the same as giving up extra yards because you didn't wrap up and bring him down?
I saw a few plays where our defender got juked but didn't really see any self-inflicted wounds where good technique on contact would have stopped the ball carrier.
But your point is valid. I'm still highly encouraged by the game-1 results.

Their definition is “when a defender has a clear opportunity to bring down the ball carrier and fails to complete the tackle”

Yes, you have to finish. Think of D. White vs P. Queen. You have to both get there and bring the runner down. Big difference between the two in college. Not knocking, just saying....

I’m not saying I think our tackling was bad, I was just giving a reference point. I thought the defense looked great.

Great defense no complaints at all . But we did have 1 breakdown with their running back coming out the backfield down the sideline that went uncovered . But we got so much pressure on the QB that he didn’t have time to see it

So if a Weeks has a guy by the ankle but doesnt get him down and help comes to complete the tackle while weeks is still holding on is a missed tackle by that criteria

Honestly I have no idea. It might just depend on the person that is grading that particular game.

Agreed. I think having to practice against our new offense probably sparked some growth as well.
