One of the more ridiculous talking points being parroted since the NIL era started is that the SEC were the only programs that were paying players under the table, before it was legal.

I see this all the time from B10 fans on Twitter (AKA Hell), and I just find this to be so laughable. Taylor Lewan, in a Bussin With the Boys interview with Coach O, had the audacity to say "The SEC was doing NIL before NIL was a thing". Is he insinuating that the school he played at, Michigan, was not paying players under the table while he was there? Not only that, but coming from a guy whose school ran the biggest cheating operation in the history of the sport, it is just comical.

I think there is some obvious jealousy from previous success, as well as a bit of pompous bewilderment, that the simpletons in the south could possibly excel at something.

I have no inside knowledge, but I feel like OSU was probably the king of bags.

I see it all the time from B10 people on twitter. All the time.

They claim that the B10 is as dominant as they are today, due to NIL leveling the playing field regarding player compensation, which I could definitely see for a team like Indiana.

But for teams like Michigan and Ohio St., GFY.

Seems to have been a fairly common sentiment on the few Big10 fan sites I've accidentally been on. Not universal, but common enough that I get where the OP's hyperbole comes from.where
