Some of ya'll are confusing the two times USC came to town. The Jacques Jones year was somewhere around 94. LSU went through undefeated.

The epic battle was 1990. USC won the first game in the winner's bracket final on a squeeze bunt late in the game. LSU rallied won the first game of the championship round, then a tornado came through between games, knocked down part of the outfield fence. The 2nd game was postponed until Monday, and Rich Cordani hit a two run HR in the 8th for a come from behind LSU win and trip to Omaha. Brett Boone was a beast in that regional, something like 5 or 6 HR's.

Last season, game 2 vs Rice.

I sat right behind home plate, first row. Literally five feet behind the ump. Had a perfect view of everything. I've been to probably over 100 games at the box, but this was the most memorable.

PS - Ott's pitches from that vantage point were just sick.

Yes, I was there, too, but it was '90. We are old now, but I like the effort.

SC won the first game to force a winner take all with a suicide squeeze from a 240 plus pound catcher.

Bret Boone was the best overall player in that regional.

Yeah, that's probably correct. I tried to find the year via lsusports.net but they only post the seasons back to 1999-2000.

I thought Jones was CF and Jenkins was RF.

That was the winner's bracket final. LSU never lost a game on Championship Sunday until Bertman's last year, when they lost the first game but won the regional by winning the second game.

Jacques Jones - born April 25, 1975 (that would put him at 15 yrs old in 1990)

[quote] In 1994, he was a first team all-American outfielder for the Trojans. In 1996, he was a member of the US Olympic Baseball team. quote]

If he was, he played waaayyyyyy out of position.

No, he was right in front of me. I was sitting in the bottom row of the RF bleachers, about 50 feet in towards the infield from the RF foul pole.

It's amazing what happens when time passes.

Just think what they're teaching in schools compared to reality.

So I may have been correct after all with my '96 or '97 guess!?!

March 29, 1986 : I sneaked in a 6-pack for a few beers and a cigar in tribute to the Tigers while sitting out in the left field bleachers ... not the baseball Tigers, though ... it was to toast the Final Four team that had just lost to Louisville that day after one of the wildest rides we ever had as LSU fans. Back at the Box, we swept Tennessee that weekend ... and Skip took the team to Omaha for their first-ever CWS a couple of months later. The rest is history.

1996 regional championship

LSU 29 Georgia Tech 13

Tigers score 18 runs in the 7th inning, along with shattering who knows how many LSU, SEC & NCAA records in the process.

This is a no contest here. As long as I live I will never forget it.

Little trivia question who was the 1st and 3rd out for LSU during that infamous 7th inning?

The fact that you didn't list game two vs. UCI makes me question your fanhood.
