They're both below average defensive catchers, which sucks.

He hasn’t shown that he’s ready to be a regular starter at C in SEC play. I would like to see him get some Sunday starts to get his feet wet, though

The reality is that both guys will continue to start games at DH and behind the plate. And will do so next year as well.

There is a chance that one or both will also cross train at 1B, but they're probably going to have Braun getting reps there over the summer with the intention of taking over there full time next season. Or if we somehow get Santarelli to campus. He's got the same type of power Serna does.

Yap I think it’s more likely Serna & Braun are your 1B/DH next year with Arrambide as your main C, with Serna spelling him 1-2x a week when needed.

My only problem with Arrambide is he doesn't help the pitchers. There are a lot of called balls that would be strikes if he could just close the mitt on the ball.

We had it made with Luis Hernandez last year. The Arrambide and Serna issue reminds me a lot of Travinski and Milazzo. Milazzo was way better behind the dish, but Travinski's bat was better.

He hit .250 against Vandy but had a monster game vs Oklahoma to push his numbers back up. Arrambide did very well against Vandy (hit .385), but was awful in this game. I like them both being in the lineup, TBH

He has looked impressive at the plate and has improved behind the plate as well. His development is key for the Tigers.

What? Serna is not better behind the plate; if anything, he is worse, with the exception of throwing runners out. Neither Serna nor Arrambide looks very good behind the plate at this point.

Arrambide - 196 Chances, 2 errors, 3 PBs, 0 CIs, and 2 caught stealing in 10 attempts.

Serna - 98 Chances, 4 errors, 3PBs, 1 CI, and 3 caught stealing in 5 attempts.

Serna should be in the lineup every day. C or DH
Arrambide needs to show me something. You can't be mediocre at both hitting and fielding and be an automatic in the lineup. Luckily for Arrambide, there are not a lot of guys producing enough to pressure him out of his DH spot when he isn't catching.

Do you think Arrambide has been mediocre at hitting?

Do you think Arrambide has been mediocre at hitting in SEC Play?

Do you think Serna is markedly better(or even better at all) than Arrambide behind the plate?

YES. He's batting .270 and leads the team in strikeouts. Yorke currently has a better batting average and obp than Arrambide, and people are calling for Yorkes head. So yea mediocre is exactly how I would describe it.

They are both mediocre behind the plate. Which is what I said.
Only thing is Serna is a freshman and is not far behind the stud sophomore phenom catcher we were told about all fall and preseason.

He's got a WRC+ of 111 on the year, meaning that he's 11 percent better than the average player.

Omar's is 107, for comparison.

There is no reason for either to be out of the lineup. Especially when batting average doesn't come close to telling the whole story of of a player's production and leading a team that doesn't strike out a lot in strike outs doesn't really mean much.

We can bring up all the different formulas and moneyball metrics but I will not be influenced into saying Arrambide has been anything better than mediocre at the plate. There are a lot of metrics we can look at to make the glass half full which is cool but if he was hitting better than mediocre we wouldn't have to dig that deep to prove it.

He's got an OPS of .886 which is third on the team among regular players. Among all offensive stats, OPS is the mostly closely correlated with scoring runs. It's the least "advanced" stat that gives the most information needed to know if a guy is a good hitter.

If you think that is digging too deep, you should probably just stick to watching baseball and stop attempting to discuss it.

MEDIOCRE. Get over it. The guy is not producing like we thought he would. You all get so defensive.

Also, I said you were digging deep when you said WRC+, not OPS. Don't try to switch up now to make a jab at me. Not a good look. Just make your argument and move on.
