From what I can tell, Verge is well liked among the coaches within our athletic dept. That is important - to me.

I don't know him and honestly am not real excited about this hire. However you are absolutely right with this comment. I hope Verge proves my initial impressions wrong...

Verge may have a feel for football with 5 int's, but how many strikeouts has he recorded? How many blocked shots or 3-point shots has he made? How much money has he raised for capital improvements to the athletic facilities?
It's great that Verge understands the game of football, but AD is much larger than that. What other info do we know about him that supports the AD responsibility? Or will the AD role be solely focused on Football?

The fact that he has a sports background is golden. No need to worry bro. CJJ will be here 15-20 yrs. Verge won't even be here by then.
he has excellent repore wIth all of the coaches at LSU not to mention good friends.
We are chatting about football atm. We need a HC.

A lot of the posters on here would bitch about whoever the hire was. They are non discriminatory bitchers.Just like Bk they will never support him and are waiting to say I told you so.Its what LSU fans do.I prefer to enjoy the ride with its ups and downs.

Being there during the time of three national championships carries a lot of weight- He knows how important Recruiting is, how important it is to have solid OC/DC and knows how the political landscape is. He knows that JAY is a superstar and will give him whatever he needs along with Mulkey.

How Often Do New Athletic Directors Win National Championships?
It is a coinflip. Looking at the last 20 NCAA Division I national championships across football, men’s basketball, and baseball, we examined whether schools won titles within four years of hiring a new athletic director. Hiring a new AD doesn’t guarantee instant success. Half of the recent national titles were won with ADs in their first four years, suggesting that fresh leadership can correlate with competitive breakthroughs.
10 of the last 20 national championships were won within four years of a new AD taking over.
The remaining 10 titles were won under ADs who had been in the role longer than four years. One might notice the name of the person we just fired (I didn't include women's basketball so you could add another one for SW).
Notable Examples of Fast Success:
Ohio State Football (2024) under Ross Bjork – hired the same year.
Georgia Football (2021 & 2022) under Josh Brooks – hired in 2021.
Kansas Basketball (2022) under Travis Goff – hired in 2021.
LSU Football (2019) and Baseball (2023) under Scott Woodward – hired in 2019.
Longer-Tenured ADs Who Delivered:
Michigan Football (2023) – Warde Manuel, hired 2016.
UConn Basketball (2023 & 2024) – David Benedict, hired 2016.
Florida Basketball (2025) – Scott Stricklin, hired 2016.

If things fall into place as I’m beginning to theorize, I’m cool with verge.
Outside of that, I’m going to be a tad worried.
Let it play out for a bit and see where all the chess pieces fall

All the national titles that LSU has gotten since 1991 in all sports, Verge has been a part of all of those.

3 of our last 4 AD's were LSU guys.
Dean - played at LSU
Skip - coached at LSU
Alleva - sided with a lying hooker over his lacrosse team at Duke
Woodward - graduated from LSU
Verge played for LSU, has worked for LSU for 30 years, and he gets the hookers to keep their mouths shut.
We got the right guy!
But in all seriousness I support the hire. I dont buy into the "nobody else wanted him" line. Ive heard from people close to him that other smaller schools have reached out in the past but his wife is really high up with Entergy and he has no reason to leave to boost his resume. LSU is his home.

5 ints in 1 game is way harder to achieve than 4 tds.
That’s not the point, which is that how great a player he was has no bearing on how he will do as athletic director.

quote:i was kidding in that reply however that wasnt the point. If you read you'd see what my point was about him being an ex player and how it relates to "insight" on the job that is directly correlated to where he used to be as a player. Athletic directors who were never ex coaches or ex players are gonna miss out on having that insight as a player when it comes to being on the job that he is managing. This is pretty much null because he's done an excellent job for over 2 decades tbw.

I've seen mlb retired players coach for shite. So I get your point but thats not why I brought up his athletic past. Alot of people dont favor him and thats okay too. For now, ill remain positive about it until we see some sideways shite.

Is verge on here posting that he is a great person, or was that you?

I dont need to give examples either, there are plenty out there, at all levels.
If that were true you would easily be able to provide examples.

most past AD's here were players/coaches/went to LSU and that's just LSU. The amount of those past players/coaches at most other universities that are or were athletic directors is/was very prevalent over time. You are just a typical egghead geek who is too stupid to do the research into it being "you brought it up". Smdh
Verge is the AD. He is in excellent standing. Cry more. Judging by your posting history, all you do is argue with people and call them stupid. Why are you constantly trying to win arguments on a discussion board? Trying to compensate for something lacking irl? Maybe you should stop posting. Try touching grass.
If you dont like it, go watch the Aggies. Now you can switch back to your other nick to back yourself up.
