What are the underlying reasons?

I'm gonna throw out a few things, crucify me if you disagree.

1. CoachO is simply going around, flanking, our rivals by recruiting kids from across the country, and somewhat.avoiding all the kids who usually list LSU, Bama, and UGA etc as their top choices but most end up not at LSU. 3 from California isn't surprising given how poor the caliber of football is currently out there not to mention O's years at USC. Now he gets a kid from the DC Virginia area, did Will Wade recruit a few football guys while up there landing Tremont Waters?

2. Maybe these HS juniors and seniors have read about Saban's health issues and think he won't be around as coach much longer. These recruits won't hit the field for another 1-3 years. They don't know for sure who'll be coaching then.

3. Maybe, just maybe, CoachO understands his role as the Head Football Coach at LSU. Its a executive position, not a administrative or any other title you care to use.

Personally, I've been about 50-50 on CoachO since he took over the program. That's now starting to change.

I think some of it also has to do with coming off a big-time bowl, NY6 victory, which we haven't had something like this since perhaps the 2011 Cotton Bowl. Also, I think the Brady hire was a homerun. Recruits are attracted to a more modern offense with a young, energetic coach.

I promise you Saban's health has nothing to do with it.

Interesting logic...I like the idea of avoiding the recruits that are 50/50 Bama/LSU only to leave us at the alter

Oh is a good recruiter
USC is down and so is the PAC 13 in general
We had a top 10 year and won a high profile game in the western part of the country

You're probably right, but even today's ego-centric kids are smart enough to do the math and may figure his days are numbered and possibly won't be there by the time they are ready to play.

Maybe he learned a valuable lesson from Will Wade and started ponying up?

It’s pretty damn impressive. I think with the defensive guys we can thank Aranda and the other position coaches. I also think recruits seeing the guys we put in the NFL is huge. I just can’t wait to get our offense going and the QBs will put us on their shirt list. We always have wrs and rbs so that along with a more dynamic offense should make the best qb recruits consider LSU.

Maybe or maybe not, but every brand eventually gets stale. Saban has been at Alabama literally as long as these current recruits can remember. Bama is no longer hot and trendy. I'm more surprised and gratified that we're beating out Clemson for some of these kids. DC is practically in their back yard.

Correct.... he is in great shape for a guy his age but sooner or later he is not gonna be able to promise some that he will be there. Saban is in a position to basically close the deal with most recruits.... only special players get a visit from him....

O is a good recruiter. He also has some help with his assts. Busch is probably the top but I think his young shadow star guys he has does a ton of work also with in campus stuff.

I guarantee you that every one of these people who are downvoting posts saying “money” are the same people that bitch that Bama is paying players and not getting caught.

Also, to answer the question, it’s money.

How much longer Mark Emmert will be in charge of the NCAA has more to do with it. He has taken a beating lately, so not sure how long he will be in charge. Saban will not coach after Emmert leaves, because his protection is gone and you know who ever follows will probably have a bulls eye for Saban

He has always been known as a great recruiter. That was never in doubt. In fact it’s the one thing that just about everyone applauds Coach O for. Even the haters.

This is not just some new skill that he developed last few months at LSU. The question is what can he do with all that talent...the same thing Miles was criticized for
