How in the world did this promising thread turn into yet another "Jefferson vs Lee", "Who's the best QB??", "Where does Mett fit in??" argument??? Do you guys actually expect any conclusion to those same tired-arse arguments???
The liklihood of anyone stating anything remotely enlightening on this subject is slim to nil. Lame...

I answered questions for an hour yesterday about certain players and how they looked. If you have questions ask them.
I'm not getting into the QB stuff but none of them looked good yesterday. JJ and Lee are what they are. Both have improved a little but neither will be much better than last year. Mett has the talent but I wouldn't trust him to start. He could be great in 2012/2013.

Or it could be as I put in my earlier post alot of people wonder why you would immediately name JJ the starter despite being rated one of the worst qb's in the country last year and 11th out of 12 in the SEC. Again it would seem if your left tackle was consistently beaten the prior year and you brought in a talented JUCO left tackle there would at least be competition and a battle for the job through spring. I would find it odd that the returning LT was named the unquestioned starter the first day of spring practice!

Because LSU fans as a whole have the largest collection of idiots.

quote:JJ or Lee. Pick your poison.
I think the coaches see JJ as giving us a better chance to win since he can make plays with his feet which Lee can't do. Jefferson has put together more complete games than Lee since 2008. The coaches have to be looking at all of that...
One has an arm, the other doesn't. One has legs, the other doesn't, one is (too)careful with the ball, one is careless with the ball. Both use poor judgement in games. Both are liabilities.

Les's "stats" were in his head. When asked about who else scored TD's, Les's response is "I don't recall". Utter bullshite, he knows who scored every TD and just doesn't want to tell anyone. Another thing I can't stand about Les, he refuses to give the fans any red meat to chew on. He thinks he has to control all of the information about the team, the fans aren't allowed to have any.
Exactly. He should give the fans info and tell us all not to tell the opponents.

Rantards think they are entitled to all information that the coaches have just for being fans. I don;t give a shite what Les tells me or anone here as long as he knows what's going on it's fine with me. As stated before by alot of posters. I will reserve my judgement on JJ or any QB that sees snaps until they actually get those snaps in game.

here are Les' comments from his pre-spring press conference and after the second practice of spring...I'm not finding the part where he names JJ the unquestioned starter. You gotta link to a quote somewhere?

Offensively I think that there will be great competition at the quarterback spot. I think Jordan Jefferson has had as fine a coaching session as I've seen. He's in the best shape that I've seen him in, and I think his attention to detail and his want to be a great quarterback appears to me to be there. I think the Jarrett Lee-Zach Mettenberger pair certainly is the competition. We're going to give those guys the opportunity to do things that they do, and we're going to ask Jordan Jefferson to do the things he does and make us better. I don't know that we will be any two-quarterback system, but we are going to let those guys that might naturally throw, throw, and we are going to let those guys who might naturally have athletic ability and movement to do the things that they do. The competition will be a fair one and one that we'll look forward to seeing how our team comes out and is best.
quote:
"I think he is an attention to detail type of guy," Miles said of Kragthorpe. "I think he is correcting the quarterbacks extremely well. He knows how an attack gets put together. It has been fun working with him."
Miles said even though the Tigers haven't put on the pads, he likes what he sees with the playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.
"There are a couple of guys that will make big plays when they need to," Miles said. "I like our tailbacks and I like our quarterbacks. Both guys who are veterans look like veterans and I think Zach Mettenberger will be a nice addition for us. He will give us some advantages."

It may also be that we are pretty comfortable at every other position. We are confident that if we can just get solid play out of the QB position that our chances for winning a NC are better than anyone else, and hence we are obsessing about it.

One of the most reasonable posts regarding the LSU QB situation.

The problem is that none of our choices at QB are completely satisfying. JJ avoids big blunders, but the offense doesn't move particularly well with him at the helm. I think if he's our sole QB for the entire year we are a 9-3 team with a slim chance at being 10-2 or 8-4. JL on the other hand moves the team well, but there is a lot of risk. With him we could be anywhere between 11-1 and 7-5. So the question becomes, what combination of these two gives us the best chance of going 12-0 or 11-1? Looking at this objectively, the best way is to take JJ as the starter to get his 9 wins, and use JL in relief to try to change the 3 losses into wins. Looking back at last year, this is exactly what Les did. I think last year most of us thought Les was a little conservative and would have used JL a little more frequently, but that's just a matter of nerve. We all want a more comfortable lead while Les has more patience. So, it's pretty obvious to me that Les knows what he's doing and that we'll see the same thing this year. On the plus side, with another year under their belt, JJ and JL should both be better. At this point Les doesn't know what he has in Mett, but when he finds out I have no doubt that he will use him appropriately.
Agreed, what else can he do at this point.

It's impossible for anyone other than coaching staff to judge anything from the first fall scrimmage.
Impossible.
It's safe to say that both of our senior qbs will be more poised and more capable, and that our offense will round into shape.
People need to relax and enjoy the ride.

I think like one guy said that usually for things like this the defense is ahead of the offense. Add to the fact that the O was running up tempo Oregon type play for most of the scrimmage (does anybody remember that last year, first down, 3 yard run get up to the ball fast, second down. 1 yard loss get up to ball fast, 3rd down 5 yard catch, punt). I'm not the coach so I don't know if this was still Oregon practice or what.
Another thing is that the first scrimmage is the first scrimmage. The coaches haven't seen what the players would do in a game-like setting. Now that they have film of that, they can go back over it and correct what they need to and tweak it all week to see if it improves next weekend.
Don't start giving up hope on anybody or jumping off the nearest cliff/bridge. being the kind of qb coach Krags is, I think he'll get right back to work on fixing some of these problems that the qbs are having. He finally has his "field" data, let him do something with it and you can bank on me that the O will be a lot better come Sept or hell come the next scrimmage.

Again I really wonder why instead of so much investment in the JJ pr campaign Miles doesnt focus on working with the qb who clearly has the most upside? Mett?

This is the correct answer.
The only thing dumber than going to the first fall scrimmage and drawing absolute conclusions about the QB for the season is taking that information 2nd hand on a message board and then drawing those conclusions.
Jefferson apparently didn't play great yesterday. That's a fair observation. But, drawing conclusions based on that for the rest of the year makes no sense. It is not uncommon for offenses to not look good at this time of the year. All you have to do is watch many NFL teams to see this.
Give it time. Kragthorpe is here to coach up QBs. He's going to make the biggest difference between now and the start of the season.

Absolutely. No dobut about it. This team will improve drastically over the next 3 wks, where execution is concerned.

The guy is a senior.
He has started for two straight seasons.
I dont think its asking or expecting too much for you sr 3rd yr starting qb to impress.
Dont think for a scond that if he had Lee's stats for the scrimmage and both mett and lee struggled, some here wouldnt have taken that and ran the other way with it.
