I think he was making a point that obviously he wasnt being given the chance to work out with the starters if he was working with the freshman

And I was making the point that it was for two practices when they weren't even in pads. If you "think" he isn't getting a fair shot, thats fine. But to think he isn't getting a fair shot because he wasn't in the same practice two times is stupid.

I agree it was never open which seems a little odd since qb play last year was so historically bad. You would think when your qb is rated 11th out of 12 in the SEC and you brig in a coveted recruit at qb he would at least be given the opportunity to compete for the job. I would think that if LSU had a LT who was continually beaten the prior year and brought in a talented JUCO LT that at the least there would be a wide open competition for the spot to get the best player on the field for the team. I would doubt the returning LT would be named the unquestioned starter day one of spring practice??????

Can we assume the reports of guys like Magee, Collins, and Landry competing for playing time are bogus because they didn't practice with the varsity the first two days?

Arent they true freshman? Wouldnt that be when they normally report? As for Magee and Landry LSU routinely rotates multiple backs and wr's for formations and sets I dont see them rotating qb's. Or at least on a play by play basis more so of when the starting qb is failing and a new one sent in not on a play by play basis!

come on dude, you know that the best will play at every position except QB, where ever T-Bob is playing and if we have a white running back...or one that is almost white like Ridley

Yes, they are. Just like Beckham and Johnson who practiced in the morning with the varsity, vets, or whatever you want to call them.

So are these reports bogus or not?

Obviously a few people are not confident in Jordan Jefferson QB ability. Their fear is becoming somewhat hysterical. Will they fellow one another over a cliff also?
The JJ critics sound more like they are eating to much "chicken" than Brains.
Give it a rest, and stop crying.

+1

Les clearly attempted to avoid a "QB controversy" my naming JJ the starter whithout having much of a chance to evaluate progress on the field. I was etremely disappointed Miles didnt open up competition and wait till camp to name a starter.

Now we all fear he may ride that decision in to the ground until it removes LSU from MNC contention.

Its really tough to question Les, but how he's handled this makes it a little easier, esp if JJ bombs.

You can argue over who the best qb yesterday Was all day long.

It doesn't change the fact that if 90% of it was at breakneck Oregon pace, then the scrimmage was obviously geared toward prepping our D, not running our O.

The problem is that none of our choices at QB are completely satisfying. JJ avoids big blunders, but the offense doesn't move particularly well with him at the helm. I think if he's our sole QB for the entire year we are a 9-3 team with a slim chance at being 10-2 or 8-4. JL on the other hand moves the team well, but there is a lot of risk. With him we could be anywhere between 11-1 and 7-5. So the question becomes, what combination of these two gives us the best chance of going 12-0 or 11-1? Looking at this objectively, the best way is to take JJ as the starter to get his 9 wins, and use JL in relief to try to change the 3 losses into wins. Looking back at last year, this is exactly what Les did. I think last year most of us thought Les was a little conservative and would have used JL a little more frequently, but that's just a matter of nerve. We all want a more comfortable lead while Les has more patience. So, it's pretty obvious to me that Les knows what he's doing and that we'll see the same thing this year. On the plus side, with another year under their belt, JJ and JL should both be better. At this point Les doesn't know what he has in Mett, but when he finds out I have no doubt that he will use him appropriately.

Have some trust in Les!

I don't.

It depends on how we've fallen behind by 2 TDs. If it is because the offense has stalled for an extended period of time, I'm pretty sure he will. If it is because Oregon put together an early drive and then got another quick TD following a RB fumbling or something, probably not.
