Yes, Skenes is a better prospect than both Mize and Leiter, but that hardly makes him a guarantee.

He’s a WAAAAAAY better prospect than those 2. And he’s just about as close to a guarantee as there is.

This is important. Somehow, incredibly, some people are underselling Skenes. Not just a a first round pick. Not just the top pitching prospect. The best pitching prospect in yeeaaarrrs. Better than Mize, Leiter, Puk, Rodon, you get the idea. And if he lives up to even “most” of his potential this is the cheapest he’s ever going to be.

Could you imagine if the NBA and NFL would draft the cheaper guy with the first pick instead of who they think the best is. MLB draft is terrible.

The coverage LSU is getting on this draft coverage can only help get more prospects here, it’s been great for us so far I feel

Legit question, did Skip ever get this kind of coverage?

I don't follow the MLB draft as close in the past so this might be a dumb question. Are trading draft picks not allowed in the MLB draft?

I totally agree. It’s been an LSU fest the past hour. Great for us. Also if you’re a parent of a future college baseball player how could you not want your son to play for Jay Johnson. Nothing but class.

When skip was coaching, the draft coverage amounted to a conference call and a list in the newspaper.

Well, yeah. I do like the perspective of the college coaches.

I just didn’t like when it was Corbin.

There is a reason many of the same teams pick high every year. They just don’t want to spend the money.

They can trade certain picks, but it’s never done on draft day. And it’s limited to only their comp round picks I think.

Corbin sucks too, personality wise.

I agree, the college coaches are cool to see at this event.

Every team spends their entire draft bonus pool.

Taking a guy under slot isn’t being cheap, it’s saving money to give to someone else.

No.

1. There was no MLB network in the 90’s. Hell, many people don’t get it now

2. I’m pretty sure the MLB draft wasn’t televised in the 90’s. Even if it was, Skip was often at the CWS

3. College baseball wasn’t nationally relevant in the 90’s. It is still not on the whole today, but much more than it was in the 90’s.

In short, Skip never got this kind of coverage because no one (outside of LA) really cared enough to give it to him.
