Only way Skenes has a chance of making the pen this year is if the Pirates fight their way back into the playoff race.

Not saying he isn't already their best pitcher in their whole system, but they're not going to rush him that fast unless the postseason is in play.

He will be on their 40-man by spring training though I think.

He was also a last minute add when Carter Young and Jack Pineda went in the draft. Basically just an addition for depth. Don't really need the depth with the incoming class. Will be interesting with his situation.

Ben Joyce is throwing this year isn't he? I could absolutely see Skenes being called up for short relief situations by mid-year/end-of-year.

Nvm you're saying this year

I agree

The Pirates brass aren't even 100% he's going to see game action anywhere this season.

We had 6 top 100 guys make it to campus from last years class. 4 of them weren't drafted and the other two went in the 17th & 19th rounds.

Leah Vann saying on twitter Garrett Edwards got 5th round money. If so, good for him.

Be completely honest here. Is jones as good of a defensive 1b as Morgan?

That's a huge discrepancy between the PG and MLB rankings.

Guy actually got PT this year and in some critical situations. He was also never allowed to really get into a rhythm. I feel like Jay must think somewhat highly of him.

Josh Stevenson had 65 ABs last year and just 10 this year.

Nippolt having 53 ABs this year, most of them early in the season, is not an indication he won't be processed. The question becomes what value does he serve the overall roster and where does he project moving forward. It's a numbers game. If he projects as a pinch runner and defensive sub at best next year, why sacrifice a roster spot for him? He'll be a 4th year player too. It's not like he was a true freshman who showed a huge potential for growth.

Well isn’t one just based off hs prospects and the other based off mlb prospects?

This, friends, is why anyone saying Jobert should comeback "because he can work his way into a higher round pick next year" need to be laughed at.

If you get drafted as a junior, especially now when the draft is only 20 rounds, you better sign because it's as good an offer as you're going to get.

Fair point. I trust Jay. I just thought Nippolt had a high ceiling and Jay liked his game.

He obviously knows what's best.

I'd probably shut him down TBH. He threw a lot of innings, far more than he ever has before in his baseball career. Not much upside in rushing him to pitch this year.

100%. Edwards and Jobert were going to sign and get as good of bonuses as they can get.
