Well...I mean when has LSU ever gotten 6 of the top 65 prospects in the country to campus?

Better than 2014?
Yes - at least per the mlb.com draft rankings.
2014 had 1 top 100 recruit (Marshall) and 5 total top 200 (Marshall, Godfrey, Lange, Deichmann, and Papierski).
Assuming we keep Noot, 2022 has 3 top 100 recruits (Guidry, Neal, and Noot) and 6 top 200 (those 3 plus Kling, Shores, and Jones).

Better than 2014? That would be nuts. Marshall counted toward that class since he showed up and cost us his scholarship.
Much better.
Deichmann, Godfrey, and Marshall were the jewels and top 100 recruits.
Latz, Lange, and Papierski were top 200 guys but still projects to an extent coming out of highschool.

Probably will be half of the top 100 this year make it to campus
This year 46 of them weren’t even drafted at all so yes half of them will make it to campus because some that were drafted are also going to school. So yes half will make it to campus like I said

I can't find a single D-1 team that has gotten 6 top 65 players to campus ever. (using perfect games rankings).

Latz was up there too. It’s an unreal class.

I’m very interested in what Carter Young can do.
He had a rough year last year but hit .328 as a freshmen (limited ABs) and 16 homers as a Sophmore (much lower BA)
Our HC is a hitting Guru. If he can get Young right he high round player.

The recruiting ranks of these guys is insane. Obviously it doesn't always translate to success but the talent is ridiculous.

You would take Travinski over Milazzo?
Not sure. I’m not familiar enough with Travinski’s defense when healthy. He was not good at all this year, but I don’t know how much of that was due to injuries. Regardless, he’s got a ton of pop in his bat that would be nice to have off the bench late if we need a RH to face a hard throwing lefty reliever in a high leverage situation when we need a bomb to tie it or go ahead. RH pinch hitters was a real weakness last year. We’ve got some really nice freshmen right handers coming in, but who knows if they’re ready/mature enough to be counted on in those spots by then, no matter how talented they are. Not everybody comes in like Pearson, even if they project higher as pros.
Don’t we have 2 freshmen catchers coming in or did that Jones (?) kid wind up signing? And when I said Skenes coming in may be a net negative, I only meant at the catcher position cause I was hearing some crazy ways he was being projected to be used. Friday night starter, Saturday catcher, Sunday DH? Or everyday catcher and closer? That made no sense to me at all—squatting behind the plate for 8 inning, then going out to pitch? Maybe that was never a legit idea, but I did see it mentioned. You don’t see a ton of 2-way guys anyway, but I can’t remember ever seeing a catcher/pitcher. But the most realistic way I heard had 3 different guys catching on the weekend. And even that is wild. Maybe those posters were just talking out of their arse, but I have no insider insight, so I couldn’t argue against it except it just being very unconventional and not ideal for the pitchers.
But if we’re recruiting him strictly as a pitcher, back up catcher, and DH, then that makes way more sense. But I never meant him coming would be a negative—it would be absolutely huge—just confusing if he was going to be counted on to catch a lot. Still, if he’s the 3rd, emergency catcher, I don’t know how much Milazzo helps the roster, when the numbers appear they are going to be super tight.
But even if there is a spot and role for Milazzo, he’s probably not gonna get a whole of playing time and may decide to leave and go somewhere he can actually play consistently. As good as he is behind the plate, his bat is so bad I don’t think he projects as a pro and may prefer to play every day at a lesser school than just be an end of the roster guy on a team with championship aspirations. Maybe not. There are gonna be some tough decisions for both Jay and a lot of players strictly because of the numbers.

If it came down to Milazzo vs. Travinski you take Milazzo every time. Travinski has just never shown the ability to play behind the plate at a level acceptable in the SEC. On top of that, we will have endless options at DH next year so it's not like you carve him out as a guy who can really DH is not catching, we got so many better guys there. You keep the guy you know who can play defense at a high level behind the plate if you got young guys you want to bring along, even if they are ultra talented.
I really dont see us carrying 5 catchers but on the flip side Ethan Frey is a guy who doesnt really need to stick to catcher probably so that would be 4 with 2 of those catchers being redshirt juniors in their last year of leverage.

Obviously Neal is your main catcher to develop from this class.
I think you cross train either Frey or Jones at catcher for spot duty. Maybe Frey in a corner OF spot Bc he’s pretty dang athletic…. And Jones at 1B.
That’s my initial thoughts on the guys futures.
I know seeing Kling, Frey, and Jones all rolling to the plate will look mighty intimidating physically

You’re probably right. I just like Travinsky’s pop off the bench late in games.
I missed most of yesterday from around noon till 9 or 10, but re-reading the last few pages of this thread, it seems like we may have lost more late than we were expecting that I didn’t realize. Did we lose some guys we thought were definitely coming late yesterday? And Leto’s in the portal? I really liked him and thought he could develop into a nice player by ‘24 if not next year. Probably not much playing time for him next year, though sans injury. And who knows who we bring in after next year too.

Neal and Noot got drafted late. But Neal already said he’s coming….. and extremely good chance Noot does the same.
Gervase said Monday he was coming back. Then got drafted yesterday and is gone, but we figured he was gone anyhow.
Carter Young got drafted late. So we kinda waiting on his decision. I don’t think we took too hard of a hit. Especially if Young sticks

That actually surprised me. I heard his interview on maybe Hunt and Hill and you could tell he was planning on leaving. Probably jumped the gun on that coming back announcement.

I did not know that. Would hurt depth for sure if he signs. Thank Goodness Guidry made it.

Really thought Jones was going to be drafted. He’s a power hitting Catcher who also plays 1st. Ranked top 50 HS prospects by Perfect Game LINK

This class is so loaded there’s several people who really haven’t been the focus of much discussion lately from what ive seen but are really good players
Micah Bucknam is a kid who i think is gonna be an outstanding pitcher for us as well but he’s kind of overlooked

He pitched really well this summer in the MLB draft league. He showed he could turn the lineup over a couple times and still be effective. He didn't walk a lot of guys. I think he's a long term starter play.
