90 Picks down and hoping we don't hear this name any time soon.

Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman: C, Albequerque Academy, 5'11", 185, R/R A tireless worker, Bregman was being heavily scouted before breaking his finger fielding a ground ball early in the 2012 season. Bregman, an LSU signee, played both shortstop and catcher for his high school, though profiles long term behind the dish. He has played mainly infield throughout his career with both Team USA and in school, but many predict that his athleticism and quick release will allow him to stick behind the plate. His bat will play at either position, though positional scarcity at shortstop and catcher make him even more valuable there. A good runner, Bregman ran a 6.82 60 yard dash at Perfect Game and his speed and athleticism show in the field, no matter his position. At the plate, he shows surprising power for a guy his size and squares the ball up consistently. A solid all-around player, even without a defensive home, Bregman presents an interesting profile for Major League teams. The broken finger certainly came at an unfortunate time and makes him a bit of a wild card come draft day, but there may be a few teams still willing to take the risk on Bregman early thanks to his power bat and athleticism.
Mack projection – Bregman was a 4-5th round pick as a catcher, but has been projected as high as a 3rd rounder as a second baseman. Then, he went down with a relatively minor ijury. I’d say he’s back in the 4th round range.

Who did the Barbe guy sign with?

If we get Bregman to come here does he start at 2B and Jones move to SS or is he a better SS than Jones would be?

Could be either, and backup catcher

Guy from Stoney brook got drafted. He is the Catcher.

Yeah I know he'd be our 2nd best catcher right off the bat, obviously Ross would start his (probable) last year here next year...Bregman the catcher of the future though unless we signed a big one for 2014 (2013 class, 2014 season).
Who do you see starting 2013 season from this incoming class though (assuming Bregman does make it in, Diaz/Gallo let's assume probably correctly they don't make it in)? Bregman at 2B/SS...who else?

We have another good catcher in this class in Chinea. There is talk on other boards that Mainieri said Bregman would play SS here.

Chris Chinea is more likely to be the catcher of the future. Bregman, if he gets to campus, will play MIF.

Despite him proclaiming over and over he's going to USM to play football, I think he would be dumb not to take the offer he'll get here. His baseball stock is maxed at this point if he plays football at USM only and I don't see him becoming a good football draft pick out of there...

Forgot about chinea....I almost feel like this is a no hitter type of situation, i'm gonna avoid talking about it until the next couple hours go by as to not jinx it

So who in this signing class can hit? I don't follow baseball recruiting much

1-2 more rounds and I like our chances of getting everybody to/back to campus that hasn't been signed yet.
I think Goody is long gone. Rhymes is too if he's Top 10, maybe 15 rounds, but that may be the pessimism in me about Rhymes because I think no way he duplicates his plate performance again nor gets better defensively.

You are right about Goody and wrong about Rhymes.

Nothing new after almost 4 innings, I'll keep the first page updated every couple of hours when I'm in and out from my laptop.
Bregman is one of the top hitters in the entire HS class. Chinea has some definite power.
Obviously Gallo and Diaz are sensational but that point it moot.
