I’ll be sure and enter Gate 1, I know the iconic image your speaking of.
Can we talk about UCLA’s 1998 season? What a great year for the Bruins, tough ending but to go to 10-2 and make the Rose Bowl is a success.
Did UCLA suffer key injuries that caused them to lose the last two games? They barely lost each of those last two, hard not to view it as a magical season.

A disaster all around. This will sound like an excuse-riddled explanation, because it is!
It started with the team completely divided before the last game of the regular season. After beating SC soundly for 20 wins in a row, in what's typically the last game of the year, we headed to Miami for the "Hurricane Bowl"-- a rescheduled game that was canceled that September. Ironically, the storm missed Florida completely, and it ended up a Sunny Saturday. Ahh, the old National Weather Center days. Talk about a coin-toss!
Back to early December: there was a huge battle over affirmative action in CA on the ballot that year, and half the team wanted to wear black armbands in solidarity for more minority student admissions. Won't bore you with politics, but on the first play of the game, one of the ringleaders and the best defensive player got "hurt" and limped off the field with an ankle.
Edgerin James proceeded to run wild for 300 something yards. Despite Cade McNown crushing the school record with 517 yards passing and 5 TDs, and a 17-point 4th quarter lead, the Canes kept coming.
Then the typical On-the-Road knee-down fumble call on Brad Melsby. His knee was down for what seemed like a full second, ball comes out, and the Refs could not wait to point in Miami's direction. No replay, naturally. Canes marched down and took the lead for good.
That was that. #1 BCS ranking gone (had been #1 since the first poll came out). Lost the chance to play in the first very first BCS game (against a weak Volunteer team led by Phil Fulmer), and instead fell to another great big back in Pasadena named Ron Dayne (and 65,000 Wisconsin fans who couldn't resist coming to LA either).
The long streak ended, and then the Handicapped parking scandal ended the Bob Toledo era. Even though we beat Alabama (twice) and Ohio State (twice) in the early 2000s, we've been reeling ever since.

Rummy, I heard back from two people who each said they haven’t had anyone reach out to them to give up their tickets and that the people putting on the event aren’t releasing any additional.
Shoot me a message with your email or phone if you’d like and I can get in contact with you and maybe we can make a small TD meet up at some point

Well, that's not exactly why they lost...........
UCLA had been playing with fire all season by fielding one of the worst defenses I've ever seen a top ranked Division I team field. All season long they relied on outscoring teams and when they really needed, just an average defense, they couldn't manage that. Yes, there were lots of things going on within the team.............nobody on the team liked Cade McKnown because he was an A-hole, the controversy with prop 209, and Toledo not holding his defensive coaches accountable. It was a great season, but they were exposed by Miami in that last game and then Ron Dayne in the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin.

all true, all true.
Ayanbadejo was the best Defensive player, and leader of the revolt. He definitely quit on the first play of the Miami game.
They only had one close win (Oregon by 3), then Oregon State by 7. the rest were double digits and blow-outs. Lost the last two games by 4 and 7.
