re: The Rose Bowl is Overrated

why not pick the better one, meaning UCLA, or the CFP?

SoFi is getting a Super Bowl and the CFP championship game. Those guarantees helped finance the $3 billion stadium.

Why did UCLA choose to stay at the Rose Bowl, rather than the Chargers/Rams home stadium?

Long story, but we'd rather have our own stadium. Inglewood is closer, no doubt. Y'all complain about neighborhoods to tailgate in and golf courses / Arroyos vs. concrete parking lots? Enough said

"He also made a great tackle on UCLA's first drive to stop them short of the 1st down. You don't really want to see your #1 CB that much when the defense is on the field. If he's having to cross the field to make tackles all the time, you have other problems out there."

He made one solo tackle all game, you're right, on a naked QB bootleg to his side of the field.

The only tackle he made all game? Against a team that ran 47 times, and threw over the middle where corners typically can make a tackle or two just by falling down.

#7 missed three tackles (clear ones) that led to Touchdowns.

All American "my arse"

"I enjoyed it except for having to exit the stadium to get concessions."

When you (and others) say "exit the stadium".... if you exited the stadium, your day was done, there are no re-entries.

You mean actually walking thru the tunnel to get to the concourse to get concessions? Well, yeah, not sure what your 98-year old stadium with ramps, stairs and a basement looks like, but that's how stadiums work.

Yea, there are concessionaires walking the aisles too, but I doubt the Coors Light guy got more than a few rows before selling out. Double-fisted much?

"Plus tailgating on a golf course was a nice change of pace over the rv lots we're used to."

I mean, this is just frickin' too gorgeous!

How many architecture awards did this sucker win back in the day? How'd you keep the Super Bowl out of the Super Dome, and the World Cup, and Olympics finals? hmmmmm, we'll never know.

"It was 116 degrees in Pasadena for the Hawaii game?"

Field thermometer read 112 degrees, add at least 5 degrees for the metal seats in the sun.

So yea. And I'm not quoting the weather at the Pasadena weather station, in the shade. Or in Santa Monica where some wise-guy Tiger said it was only 86 that day. Yeah, it's called beach vs. Inland.

I heard more complaints from Louisiana people in person between 3-5 pm than I care to share... "I hope we're not sitting in the sun...we're going to be in the sun...!? When does it go down?"

call that Sissy Purple pussies

"Rose bowl was fine. The heat before the sun went down was shitty though."

At 5:30, huh? I mentioned on here that the 12:30 pm start a week earlier, when it was 15 degrees hotter, was a reason fans stayed away (vs. Hawaii).

Mocked, mocked, mocked, jokes, haha, we know what real heat is like... "Have you ever been to the Gulf Coast in August?"

The answer? hellll no, why would I? I've been to the Caribbean closer to the equator, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, and a helluva lot nicer and hotter / more humid places in August.

We'll suffer our way down to the Gulf Coast in 2024, eschewing a typical Hawaii, Mexico, Belize or Caribbean week to visit Death Valley. Hope you're just as weak-sticked and whiny in 3 years as you all are now.

ok, so it's a 98-year old stadium. yeah, that's old.

It's designed like a literal bowl, so guess what? there is a concourse and you go thru a tunnel to get to the seats. Sorry there's no where to piss under your seats in a concrete decked monstrosity. Don't you just pee in your cup anyway?

Yeah, shitty stadium that's hosted FIVE (!!) Super Bowls, Two Olympic Finals, Two World Cup Finals, and the greatest Bowl game in college football every single year, plus, what, five combined national title games (BCS and Playoffs).

Guess when any one of the above will be in Baton Rouge. That's right, you're "Never-Burger" is ready for pickup

Yeah, I'd rather sit in a concrete 5-deck tower and walk up 12 ramps in a disgusting Bayou swamp any ol' day
"Thanks. I’ve been dying to know what Chip said... He's refreshingly honest."

He's honest, not an arrogant, name-calling prick, and always respectful to the opponent.

Orgeron, on the other hand... Never mind, you already know what a d-bag he is.

PLUS: quoting one of the Sissy Blue fan boards here:

"he doesn't wear a headset during the game, basically all he seems to do is rah, rah and clap his hands. If your head coach isn't in direct and constant communication with the other coaches that's a problem. But honestly, this doesn't surprise me regarding the Ogre. He's a crap coach........good at slimy recruiting and hand clapping but not much else as far as I can see."
"It was neither a thrashing nor domination.

Their completions were big plays to a wide-open tight-end and garbage tackling against the running game.

There was nothing fancy or dominating about what they did -- in fact, it was very basic shite that a good team could shut down."

Wait, wait, wait. 7.3 yards per carry to 2.1 per carry? what is that? garbage tackling? On two UCLA TDs, the scorer was completely untouched, and on the 75 yard TF, the touch was 73 yards from the LOS.

It was basic shite, properly executed, by a band of 3-star linemen coached properly. Good technique, good scheme, brilliant play-calling, catching them off-balance, not set, not ready, with heads spinning. They got CHIPPED!

"Garbage tackling" to the tune of 216 rushing yards?

Pleaase.

Cowherd is a 1000% Trojan Homer, never up on UCLA, until he say for himself. And the blocking schemes are just that, and have been that solid

If you don't agree that that was an offensive coaching clinic, I'd recommend reading Helen Keller's biography again.

"I by no means think Kelly is a great coach but he was competent enough to exploit LSU's glaring weaknesses."

Go back and notice again how all the pulling guards / trap runs to the left side of the Field set up the first 75-yard touchdown, and you'll know what good offensive coaching looks like. Got eight defenders on the wrong side of the field heading towards the hash, and left the door wide open to the right flat, sideline and end zone.

Go back and watch what happens on 3rd and long (after a holding penalty) late in the 4th quarter. 17 yard pass to the crossing TE (again) down to the 1.5 yard line.

Before LSU even got half their guys set, the ball was snapped, in perfect formation for a power left sweep. #74 pulls and destroys the edge. Then watch #2 complete his ownership of your #7 with a Pancake supreme:

LINK

That's "by no means a great coach?"

After all of college football supposedly "caught up" to Chip by mimicking the no-huddle, blur spread offense (including the entire SEC, led by the two Trojan castoffs that put Bama's offense into the 21st Century), they said the game passed Chip by.

I'd beg to ask your defensive starters about that. You can chalk it up to "miscommunication" all you want: by the way, is that just standard LSU talk for when you got out-coached, out-thunk, out-smarted and out-played?
More on Singley #7 getting pancaked by a WR:

LINK

Usually your All-American makes more of an impact than 1 damn tackle, vs. a team that ran 47 times and threw it 16.

That's a lot of tackles / plays to be uninvolved.

And three missed tackles on touchdowns (or the play preceding a touchdown.)

"Plus how many times is a corner the "leader of the defense"? Usually your leader is an enforcer like a safety or LB."

Even a Bruin remembers the Honey Badger.

Curious how y'all don't
"That wasn't Stingley's man, watch the game again. Stingley came in for support."

1000% WRONG!

Watched the replay 10 times. Stingley's man, Flat out Fact.

#2 Phillips in right slot, #7 right across from him.

Phillips goes at him and Stingley goes into his soft-man coverage. Phillips slants hard left, #7 follows behind him. Pass is right on the money, Stingley chases from 5 yards behind, with no other defender helping or near his man, until Phillips makes other dude miss near the sidelint. Then #7 finally shows up for the Whiff that leads to the end zone.

Watch is again
"I don't think UCLA is very good...LSU is just that bad. I do agree Stingley is WAY overrated."

First it was Hawaii, not it's LSU.

Did your eyes deceive you?

Next you'll say UCLA has a shitty fan base because only 32,000 showed up for a 12:30 kickoff on a day that was 15 degrees hotter than yesterday. Any that made the trip knew what it was like at 12:30 yesterday. Or that it was all LSU fans, ignoring the 50,000 plus that wore "powder blue!"

Any other revisionist shite you wanna revisit from before the game?

We'll wear them down, they're soft, their QB sucks, their RB's ain't shite compared to #3, our line will maul them/we aint Hawaii?

Our crappy QB had a 262 rating yesterday. LMK when Maxi-pad Johnson has a day like that

I'm waiting
"Even when the defense got the ball back before we didnt do anything with it. There were ZERO guarantees that we were going to go down and score. There was plenty of blame to go around before that play. But yes let's just focus on that one play."

Focus on that one play? Serious? An All-American DB who made one solo tackle?

The best DB on the field last night, bar NONE, wore #37.He broke up passes that were sure completions, made tackles, and HIT THE QUARTERBACK, squarely, right in the gut on one blitz, and wreaked havoc on several others, all while playing solid run support too.

Great defensive backs, great linebackers, great edge rushers put their mark on the game, in spite of an offensive scheme designed to keep the ball away from them.

Our greatest DB ever, Kenny Easley, once singlehandedly refused to let Ohio State cross midfield, not once, in the Horseshoe against a top 5 Ohio State Team. Made 20 tackles.

His hits were so fierce, he literally tackled a Buckeye so hard, legally, in bounds, the he ended up in the bleachers.

where was that #7?

All American DB's impose their will on a game doing a helluva lot more than the nation saw a Soft #7 in yellow and purple do last night.

#Unimporessed
you mean his one solo tackle, zero pass deflections, zero QB hurries (his one blitz was futile, led to a long completion), and THREE MISSED TACKLES on touchdowns of runs that directly led to a touchdown?
"Stingley’s job is to cover wide receivers. Not one single wide receiver caught a ball last night. None. He did his job flawlessly."

unless you don't count WR Chase Cota's TD catch (untouched), or WR Kyle Phillips 45 yard TD catch where the so-called #7 was trailing him (HIS COVER!) while he caught the ball over the middle, and then COMPLETELY WHIFFED on the arm tackle before the game-clinching TD

good eyes
Stingley? All-American?

Had more major missed tackles (3--all leading to Touchdowns) than tackles or Pass deflections and quarterbck hurries combined (TWO). and only one of the two tackles was solo.

Ricks? zero tackles! all-american corner? nice pick, but that was about it.

Chip schemed them out of the game, as predicted. Left them on islands with the wide spread, then threw right over the middle.

Even when we lined up with 3 tight ends, corners made zero tackles. We lined up, said we're gonna run, and RAN THRU LSU LIKE SOFT, WARM BUTTER

from last time he gave up 38 to the little boys in powder blue:

“Come Saturday night, we’re gonna let those little boys from across town into our stadium and we’re gonna lock the gates,”

This OGRE's big mouth really stands up well come the end of Saturday night.

Hope for my newfound LSU friends (I met and partied with dozens yesterday,,,,great time!):

we hope we helped get rid of this clown for the second time
