Sorry for being lazy but what's the word on Matulis? Has his command of the strikezone improved?

Thanks for the preview Adam! One suggestion - could you put what page the current position being previewed is on in the subject? Easier to find on the phone.

Does anyone have any information on #21 Dishon? I was just curious because he seems to be a rare 5 tool player, and according to the bio sheet on lsusports.net had a standout summer in the Valley league. Where does he stand as far as playing time this season?

I would think he pushes Landry in LF. No matter who the starters are, that will be the fastest OF in the country!

Dishon has looked good from what I have seen but he needs to be consistent. He will get his chance though. The lineup is never set till April anyway so by then we will have the best 3 in the OF. Whoever is hot will play. I predict Dishon will start against LHP over Landry unless he learns to hit them.

Delatte knocked the crap out of the ball in practice the past few days. Hope he is a pleasant surprise because I wasn't too high on him last season.

I was really critical of Nola last year, mainly because I believe every segment of his performance was wildly overrated (and the defensive ability of the rest of the infield was underrated). That said, I really think he is going to make a great leap forward in his offensive production. He always had a good approach at the plate and I like how he never sacrificed patience even when struggling. In almost all college sports, the biggest improvement in a player is between the freshman and sophomore years. Nola can be a reasonable option as a two-hole hitter or he will be a terrific back-of-the-order hitter.

+1 He will be platooning with Landry as will Gaudet with Didier at DH.

Back to the posters origional question about Dishon. Coach Mainieri was quoted saying he will play in about 40 games at least. Simply meaning Dishon, Dozar, Keonenman, and Didier will be the first guys to pinch hit and come off the bench in key situations.

I could see him being a 2 hitter if Landry doesnt work out there, if Landry can't be more of a contact hitter, he needs to be hitting 6 or 7.

I think Nola's skillset makes him a prototype #2 hitter. As long as PM doesn't get the crazy idea to start bunting Nola in the early innings, its a good idea. Nola puts the ball in play, giving the lead runner a chance to advance.

I like Landry, but he was a strikeout machine.

Good to hear. I've never seen Dishon play, but looking at stats it appears the only hole in his game is that he is undisciplined at the plate (strikes out a lot)... a guy with his speed just needs to find a way on base. Hopefully Mainieri can work with him on this.

About a year ago you commented to one of my posts and I'm pretty sure you stated my first name. But if you don't remember, it's no big deal. And to answer your question, yes.

I remember. I work with a guy who knows you. He asked me to mess with you.

If Landry does make more contact rather than flyballs and strikeouts at the 2 hole the top of the order with Watkins, Landry, and Dean is going to be absoutely filthy not to mention the rest of the lineup.

I think dishon is a lot like ochinko in the game mentality. He puts pressure on himself and gets too excited. It's either a great hit or a strikeout but no consistency. Probably a .280 hitter with speed as a plus.
