Given the protection Etling got, the run game efficiency and the surprisingly good play of the 2 freshman guards, can we put off firing Grimes?

One play doesn't change anything about the original posters question.

A true freshman missed his block while the rest of the line pushed their guys into the endzone.

It's not just about their play, but the recruitment of that position as well. We have been pretty thin there with all the transfers, but since Grimes has been here, he hasn't recruited OL well like he was supposed to be able to.

Let's be honest- the O line gets a B for the game but they will need to improve to A if we want to run against SEC West teams- The passing game is only there if we can run

Grimes, Stud whoever you want or want to fire needs to take a giant step forward with Canada's offense.

Grimes has one season to prove he is the guy

You can't miss a 350 pound guy, that's unforgivable. Lol That's a polar bear in front of you, I could see if he was quick. And they had some miscues costing them penalties, but it was the first game and mistakes happen. But Alabama looked really dominant again against FSU, so LSU has work to do.

WTF game did you watch? I watched the OL push BYU back all game long. Other than a few false starts and holding and 77 completing missing his assignment which if he would have made that block Williams could have walked in backwards I thought they dominated BYU's supposedly big and powerful front.

They also tried that roll out in the red zone 2-3 times and Etling was pressured right away and had to abandon the playcalling. Don't know who's fault that was or what went wrong but that's something to clean up.

Idk about the Grimes situation but the offensive line looks very good. That DLine was big and we handled them for a majority of the game. The offensive line may be thin but we have some quality starters who seem to understand the blocking scheme. I have really enjoyed the blocking scheme on run plays, the DLine gets completely washed out of the play and those LBs get caught up in the presnap movement. I don't think we see as many long runs this season as compared to last, but I think you will see consistent chunk yardage from the RB's. This is an offense that moves 10 yards at a time and doesn't rely on a RB getting a big run down field to improve field position. I still think our RBs get big runs, however, it will be because of mismatches instead of smash mouth football. I really think this scheme benefits the offensive line the most.

Say what you want, but Grimes has done a fantastic job in BR and everywhere he has been. Studrawa left the cupboard bare, and Grimes has filled it up again.

Don't keep judging the LSU O-line by the 'Bama game. You simply can't move the ball against the athletes Saban pays without an NFL caliber QB and five solid NFL-caliber linemen. And what offense can boast that?

Best oline performance I've seen in a while. Quarterback stayed upright and we can be playing southern and our oline can look like shite lol

You won't be able to tell where this line is until Moo State. BYUs defensive line is nothing like they will see in SEC play

Yes - I was pretty impressed with how well the OL has adapted to Canada's offense, particularly with young guys who aren't even filled out yet. Great job by the coaches and I feel better about OL depth already.

lets pump the brakes until we play moo state. if we look good against them with the O-line then i believe we can be dominant.

OR the running game is only there if we can pass.

Alabama has SHUT DOWN our running game of a couple of years now with one of the most powerful backs to ever play college football. I predict they are going to shut it down again this year unless we can move the chains via the air. imo, their front 7 is the best in college ball. I don't know how to buy Etling more time but we have to throw it to win. the only other chance is to confuse them enough with the misdirection to knock off some runs.
