I know I read quite a bit about running backs, wide outs, QB’s, DB’s, line backers and even defensive linemen. What I don’t see much about is our OL recruiting and look where we are now. Do we put in the same effort to recruit top tier offensive linemen as we do other positions?

I’ve shared the breakdown multiple times.

Go look at 2018-2021 OL recruiting and compare LSU with UGA/ alabana

It’s absurd with the disparity on the amount they sign each year and the quality of Recruits. LSU has been recruiting OL with mentality of OM/Ark/Vandy…

They are not only not focused on hauling in big OL classes, they’re missing on Evaluations and development. Compound that with 3 stars…you get abused

I think what made 2019 so great was that so many of the players came back for their senior year...especially our OL and DL players...and they worked hard during the off season and came back in great shspe...I'm years past many have left after their junior year..
Against AUBURN we looked out of shape and tired in the fourth quarter...I think lack of depth is also a big issue...

I agree with the conditioning aspect of the team. We just can’t hang in the fourth quarter.

I don't think we know what to look for, to be honest.

I think our coaches are like the scouts from "Moneyball" talking about how they pass the eye test and their girlfriends are 9's or 6's.

Do we even look at dimensions like intelligence, strength, ability to learn, etc.? Alabama has very specific criteria they look for in every position, so they know how to recruit to it and that is how they stay so consistent.

We need to focus less on stars, size, etc. and get guys that are smart and have enough athletic ability to be developed.

O Line is the most cerebral part of the team, and we don't have smart people playing these positions, outside of 1 Harvard transfer that lacks all of the other dimensions except intelligence.

austin Thomas left after the 2017 season (moron) and we never replaced his position. We broke it down into multiple positions and gave it to guys with no experience.

Florida State still hasn't recovered from the dumpster fire that Jimbo left behind

We recruit the highest rated in-State high school guys and get a lot of them. That is a double edged sword.
1. Many of those guys are at their max potential and may not improve.Especially with the way HS talent is spread in La.
2. Many don't want to improve.

If you look at what many Mid-Western schools do, we recruit all wrong.
You take 3 stars with high upside, add good S&C and Coaching and they have a 3rd or 4th year starter. It takes a long time and consistency to be good at O-line.
Bama does that, but those guys automatically jump to 5 stars because its Bama.

However, Ark A&M, and all the consistent O-lines in the Big10 are built that way.

A&M and TX are relatable examples. A&M has had recent high draft picks from their O-lines, TX has has a large number of Tx 5 stars, but no high O-line draft picks.

No, you can go back further and compare.

Here’s an easy exercise, go look at sabans OL recruiting when he arrived at LSU. Then compare it to his last 5 at alabana. Almost identical

The recruiting philosophy/strategy to drastically different when you compare LSU under him and under Miles/O.

I don’t compare us to Bama, they’re on another level and therefore operate differently

Edit: I agree that we took a step back when Saban left but we took an even bigger step off in the last few years

Isn’t Grimes the OC with Aranda?

Wouldn’t Grimes follow Aranda back to LSU?
