Did Coach O say something about Shanahan getting first look at center?
re: Offensive Line ProjectionsPosted by LSUBadger on 7/7/20 at 9:16 pm to tigerrag901
I think Bradford will be the RG. The Harvard transfer will be C.
Worried about Hines and Thomas. Think Perry might be more in the mix than people are projecting

I don't think Shanahan will be able to beat out Chasen Hines at center.
I also heard Thomas Perry is backing up left guard.

You can’t play center at 350

I’m ready to see Cameron Wire in action. I think he’s a sleeper right now that will be great in a season or two. Just a hunch.

Coach O damn near said it today. I believe he most certainly will I don’t think Hines can play the center position effectively at 350.
Perry will be a backup tackle based off depth. We are only 2 deep at both tackles. He’s the biggest guy we’ve got to play the position besides walk ons

The people that saw him play in place of Rosenthal in the few spring practices said Wire is good enough to be a starter right now.
I'm betting he'll probably end up taking Deculus' spot at right tackle next season. If Rosenthal doesn't leave for the NFL at the end of the season.

It's kind of hard to get a good fix on Ed O. As earlier on the same show but different day, he bragged on Chasen Hines. Said he was bigger and stronger and faster than Lloyd Cushenberry and would be a very good center.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

UGA's center last season weighed in at 355.

There can only be one natty winner. Nonetheless, they made it to the SEC title game.

It looks like out of high school he was that big. Last year on roster it says 330.
That's still really big for a center but some quotes say he is the most athletic big man some people have ever seen.
Aggregate data taken from the NFL combine shows that the average weight for a Center measured at the combine is 303lbs.
Hines has mentioned to be overweight by O in the spring. So Im not sure he is holding good weight. I think he is better built to be a guard, especially if Shanahan can emerge as a viable Center.

Chasen Hines is sort of like that, too. He has elite balance and footwork, and he's very powerful. I agree with your implication that Hines' natural position is guard, though.
However it works out, we'll have three starter-worthy offensive linemen on the bench among...
Dare
Ingram
Hines
Bradford
Deculus
Wire
Thomas
Shanahan
Then we'll have Perry, Turner, Evans and the freshmen on the bench. THAT's a good depth chart!

Im not saying he is a bad athlete, he's not. But 6'2" 350 doesn't carry well for a center.

I told yall a few months ago when he committed to LSU, that he'd be the starting Center.
O just confirmed it......
