Offensive line for 2012 taking shape

As La'el Collins continues to work with 1st unit while Josh D is in a green jersey, I'm guessing Collins may win the starting job at OG.
That gives us Faulk, Collins, Lonergan, Williford, Hurst as the first unit which is very good, big, and experienced minus Collins.
However, after those guys, we have Josh D coming off an injury and no one with PT after that. Last year, we had a couple experienced veterans in Shaw and T-Bob.
What do you expect from our Oline going into 2012? What happens if a starter sustains a season ending injury during spring or fall practice? Who's gonna step up?

Josh D can play either interior position. Center is our real issue. Lonergan seems to get knicked up a bit, & his health is of major import.
The reports I hear about our 2nd string OL is that the NO kids are in each others ears & have great chemistry. Porter/Turner/Austin aren't going to let anyone dog it without the others letting them hear about it, & they are improving steadily.
Porter may not be ready for prime time if pushed into action, but I like our OL's chances if healthy to actually improve significantly over last year.
Chris Faulk & Collins are going to be an absolutely DOMINANT left side of our line. Folks don't realize how mean Collins is.

My big request is to keep Josh D as a reserve, please. Love the guy for giving six years , but he is not that good.

I think Porter will be ready. Miles praised him and Collins early this week.

I'm excited for Collins. His career is going to be very interesting to follow. He is so good he pretty much has to start somewhere and the beauty is that he can play OG or OT. I'll bet he ends up at the LT before his career is over.

Collins will not start over Josh. Not saying I want Josh to start but I'm saying you better beleive Les will start Josh.

I felt the same way with Richard Murphy when he got an extra year in 2010.
They gave him #18, so I afraid the coaches might force feed him carries. But they did the right thing and he was an afterthought while Ridley exploded as our feature back.
Here's hoping the same thing happens with JD and Collins.

LT - Chris Faulk, JR.,
Chris Davenport, JR.
Jerald Hawkins, FR.
LG - La'El Collins, SO.,
Josh Dworaczyk, SR.
Trai Turner, FR. RS or Corey White, FR. RS
C - P.J. Lonergan, SR.,
Elliot Porter, SO.
Corey White, FR. RS or Trai Turner, FR. RS
RG - Josh Williford, JR.,
Evan Washington, SO.
Matt Branch, SR.
RT - Alex Hurst, SR.,
Vadal Alexander, FR.
Jonah Austin, FR. RS
Derek Edinburgh Jr., FR.
I think your starters are in bold with La'el playing some tackle if needed. Miles seems to like Porter at Center and we should see him there some this year to get him some PT. Washington is coming off an injury but all indications are that he's doing pretty well. He could play guard or tackle as well, but I think V. Alexander may get a shot at tackle before he does. Edinburgh and Hawkins will more than likely redshirt. Turner, Austin and White were big recruits who were redshirted last year. It's a guess, but I think either White or Turner will get some work at center as well as guard. Davenport...??? No idea about him. We are also also still in the race for Fehoko Fanaika, a JUCO lineman who would enroll during the summer.

This is what I an afraid of. Miles has a want for playing Josh D ever since he showed up five years ago. He has been a below average OT and OG. That is why I like him as a reserve because is can play OG or OT. Collins on the bench is a sin.

Josh Dorostick has a bunch of friends and family here.

Has Porter gained any weight? he used to be 270 and he needs to get to 300.

He isn't going to be playing any T for LSU...
He's a G for a reason. People always wondered why we kept him at G when he was undersized. It's because he sucks at T. They tried that experiment in practice and he is too slow out of his stance.
Maybe C they'll mix him in...
I doubt Collins starts over him either. Absolutely no way Miles puts a 6th year player on the bench. Collins better get one of the G positions...

ignorance. Josh D has been our best o-linemen. the pro scouts rated him #1 on our o-line prior to faulk. I guess you didn't notice who ridley ran behind most of the time.
i don't know if he's better than collins or vice versa, i just know he's better than a below average s.e.c. guard.

He's not in the 2 deep at either tackle position, nor is he even taking cross-training reps as I understand it.
With Faulk quite likely to make an early exit next year (especially if he has the kind of season I think he'll have), one would think 'El would be taking reps just to stay sharp there. But I think the move inside is a permanent one.

I don't know. I think even Les can see a talent gap there.

It hardly matters. If Josh can het healthy in time for fall practice, then we are just going to see Collins, Williford, and Josh rotate.
That is a good thing. It's called depth.

You are wrong. Josh D was bragged on by Miles since he got here but has been a bust. I wish he was better. He got pushed around at OT because he was under-sized and he didn't work out at OG either. Everyone has bragged on him but he just never produced. Almost every rantor agrees with me. We are waiting on him for the last five years and he keeps failing to produce.

LSU will have three reserve O-linemen who have game experience:
- either Collins or Dworaczyk (whoever doesn't start)
- Davenport (who played as much as Collins did last year)
- Branch (who also played about the same number of snaps)
Plus, over the 2nd half of 2010, Dworaczyk was clearly the best O-lineman on that team (even better than Barksdale). And that unit was pretty damn good by the end of the season.
If Dworaczyk is 100% healthy, he will clearly be the O-lineman on our 2012 roster. And he needs to be on the field (for our offense to be at its best).
