Now, this offense appears to be taking Twitter requests from fans on which play to run next (this is when they can actually get a play off)!

funny and true.

quote:

Where are the quick-slants, the post routes, the 5-yard curl routes to Dixon, the crossing patterns, the DIVE? On 3rd and 1 yard to goal, why is Jefferson handing the ball to Scott on the 5 YARD LINE?

I would also add bubble screens.

A couple people have mentioned the Saban adage and I think they are right on the money "attention to detail" plus a lack of discipline. The guys are not ready mentally nor are they conditioned for the game. Almost every game except for last night 5 or 6 guys are going down with cramps or something. I'm an amateur I know, but there are basic things that seem to be lacking with these players, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not calling for anybody's job, but I would like to see this team play to it's potential.

LSU has equal athletes to Florida, USC, anybody.

Sorry, but that's not true of our o- and d-lines. Danielson said it best last night: teams like Florida and Bama have o- and d-lines that make the difference in a game, LSU DOES NOT. Other teams with o- OR d-lines better than ours: USC, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Texas, Ohio State, Miami and others.

" think he is running scared from last year and he has the team running scared because of it. "

I think that is spot on. LSU is scared to play shepard because he might turn the ball over. We are scared to play JL because of what happened last year. We are scared to throw over the middle because we might throw an INT. It makes it hard to find something that works and it makes it easy for a defense to shut you down. Young QB's have to learn from their mistakes. JJ looks like he is not trying to make plays because he is afraid to screw up. I also think the comments about the coaching staff is spot on. Why did it take us until the second half to stop their center from turning his head to pre signal the snap? We take to long to call the plays on offense. It disrupts any sense of rhythm on offense and in this game wasted valuable time. Why not give the kid one pass or run play and a check down, if it's not there dump the ball off in the flat to a back or the TE. I do agree that the 05 class is hurting us now,but we have had time to pick up some players to make up for it.Apparently we haven't done a good enough job. Remember 06? the only qb we brought in was Andrew hatch and he was a walk on.

JJ has shown NO inprovment. The intellect is not there as I pointed out this very early morning. He has raw talent and that is the story line. We MUST put JL in just to see if he has matured and RS MUST be an immediate part of this offense where ever he will make the most immediate impact.

I know I will get flamed for JL comment but I really don't think it would take too long to find out if HE has matured.

There is no excuse for the performance of the Tigers. This is an example of the lack of coaching ability of "less smiles". He has no concept of leadership nor the proper use of raw talent others would die for!

I am a supporter of Coach Miles, and have been pleased with the progress of the defense.
The offense is another story. Under "attention to detail" you can add a lack of wide receivers being able to hold their blocks downfield. Several plays this year would have been for long yardage but for the corner shedding the block and drilling the ball carrier.

So basically you are saying if a coach is in a professional football league of any kind it automatically makes him an established big name coach?

Not necessarily, but let's not pretend he was an unknown. He did coach professionally & won a Heisman Trophy.

I have never seen a team that has our kind of talent on offense squander it like we have, and I believe it has been mostly the coaching that has failed us in this area. DO NOT RUN THE OPTION WITH JEFFERSON!...he always looks confused on what he should do...but if you run it use Shepard!...were was he by the way? YOU CANNOT OPERATE AN OFFENSE FROM THE STANDPOINT OF NOT TRYING TO SCREW UP...YOU HAVE TO PLAY TO MAKE PLAYS!...to this point in the season we have had a defensive offense

people get tired of hearing about Saban, but look at his team yesterday, they looked just like the LSU teams of old

Which teams are those? The ones that lost 3 games? LSU only had 1 team under Saban that played like Bama is now, and that was the '03 team. You are remembering things that didn't happen.

I agree with you. Crowton might have been great 12 years ago when he had Tim Rattay throwing to Troy Edwards against USL, but the big boys of the SEC have caught up to him. He's garbage.

He was an offensive Coordinator and QB coach previously before landing his first coaching position with the Bandits and while he may have been known because of his college playing days he was not a big name head coach until his successes at Florida...his success at Duke put him in position to get that job...its just too bad LSU didn't hire him when they gave it to Archer...

I agree with gnms....also, maybe we can see how Miles won with players trained by Saban. As much as I did not want to admit...the players now are being trained a different way...and yes, if JJ is not replaced so he can stand back and take a look...here comes 7-5. Miles asks JJ to run the option...HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW!!!! Buut coaches are proud and hard-headed...it is what costs them their jobs.

Great column, Carl.

quote:

Riley Cooper got away with holding, sling-shotting his way past Chris Hawkins for the touchdown reception that gave Florida a 10-3 halftime lead.

It happens. You have to overcome, and LSU didn't

Exactly. For that reason, no need to bitch about called or uncalled penalties.

quote:

The scariest thing for LSU fans right now is the prospect of this harsh reality: Miles and his staff already know what they've got and can't find ways when they're scripting game plans to work around the shortcomings.

Yes... hours after the game ended, I wasn't able to sleep, finally chalked it up to worrying about my team. But they'll get it, I know.

Unfortunately, I have to agree somewhat.

Currently, we have two wide outs, one running back, one tight end, and at least one O-lineman that will certainly be in the NFL over the next two years.

Florida has Tebow and a pack of sprinters...I still believe we are more talented than UF offensively. A young QB is no excuse for the sub-standard offensive production that we've had this far.

I think that this year's offense is last years defense. Could be time for a change.

Our coaches do not have the ability to develope a QB and everyone can see it.

To have the offensive talent we have and be the worst offense in the SEC is inexcusable. Recruits who see Russell Shepherd, Reuben Randle and Michael Ford get negligent playing time and productivity has to hurt recruiting too. Wouldn't happen anywhere else. Why?!?!

Tommy Casanova's jersey was ... well, I don't know what to call it, but LSU needs to come up with another word for it when the school "retires" someone's jersey and allows a player to continue wearing his number. Still, the crowd loved it, and it brought back memories of that 28-8 defeat of Notre Dame on prime time television in 1971.

I'm sure Hatcher will get a new number next year, or that number will not be used after he graduates. #20 hasn't been used in forever.
