What do you mean LSU's offense didn't show? The last-place offense in the SEC was there....saw it with my own eyes. In 42-inches of HD.

LSU looks like somebody trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Great writing, Carl. Should be required reading by everyone on the Tiger coaching staff.

LSU 's program has been set back 2 years because of that THUG :Ryan Perriloux. We have now sacrificed not one but two young QB's . Lee was thrown to the wolves last season and Jefferson looks like a deer in headlights this year. We need to add to that ,that our Head coach /offensive coordinator don't have a clue as to simplifying the offense for Jefferson. I saw this kid play in high school and he was very effective from a spread ,moving pocket type offense. We need to give him the pass/ run option. It is painfully obvious that he (at this point) is not able to read his progressions.
Russell Shepard has to get on the field even if he is lined up as a running back or wide out. He could be a outlet to Jefferson

Geez...over-react much...

Miles is a liar?...or perhaps he is a football coach with a struggling offense.

Look...he hasn't lied. What is going to do...come out in spring practice and say "Man, our OLine is not as good as we thought. We are going to struggle to run the ball this year and it is going to make it difficult on our young QB. I hope teams don't make us throw it."

Look I think this game was good for a couple reasons. It showed us that YES our defense can hang and this new system works. We may not have had a sack...but UF scored 13 points...i will take that result all day...particularly when you factor in that horrible missed call on the TD.

It showed us that the offense can't cut it against a quality D at all. Bama is coming up quick and if we don't fix something then we walk hopeless into that game.

SO...whats on the coaches here.

My opinion...We have no identity. We can't be a power team AND a spread team AND an option team. It just doesn't work at all.

Pick something and do it.

At this point i think the best option is to play to strength and hide weakness (Duh...but bare with me). We are predictable, can't line up and knock people off the ball, cant protect for any long amount of time in pass coverage, and have a QB who holds the ball too long. We do have good skill players and lots of playmakers.

The only option for this year i think is to go to some sort of no huddle spread the field passing attack. This would limit subs from the D, give us mismatches, and because of this advantage and just the general emphasis on a GO,GO,GO type mentality would probably result in JJ getting rid of the ball faster.

I don't think this is a great long term solution...but for the rest of this season may be the only option.

As far as the coaching goes...i think there are some failures there but they have to do with a flawed approach of trying to do too much with a group that can't handle it.

I agree Ryan P. was a set back for LSU like a bad hurricane. A school rarely loses a QB mid-stream. Other schools and commentators don't see it that way and expect LSU to still be the team from 2 years ago. Tebow was not totally his Superman status last night and so it goes. Had the LSU offense played as well as defense, it would a have been a nailbiter. Count our blessings no player was severly hurt either side and on to the next game...next year!

Defense showed adn played well. It is improving.
Offense is the problem, of course, and the issues there are obvious:
1) JJ is not an effective weapon, and, in fact he negates the effectiveness of our runners and receivers. He frightens no SEC defense;
2) Our OL is still inconsistent, but perhaps showed some slight improvement against a very good Fla. DL. Penalites, blown assignments and lack of physicality still predominate;
3)TT, poor routes, poor hands adn poor ball skills;
4)If we and an overarching offensive strategy it was nowhere apparent in the plays called. How did Crowton plan to score points?

I think its a bit harsh. Yes, Florida is the better team. The office is cranking, or not cranking, with kid gloves because, well we have some kids, especially at QB. Contrary to practically every post I've read, I thought JJ did decent against the #1 team in the country, FOR A SOPHMORE. Its an obvious weakness, but it will be a strength for the next two years and it might be a strength by the time we play Florida again this year. The coache's game plan as concerns JJ is long term and therefore is actually good. Question is, can they take the heat from the here-and-now fans. Now the choice not to go for it on 4th and goal, in our own stadium is questionable, as is all the frekin offensive penalties in the 1st quarter. Outside of that, I'm actually proad of the direction we are going. We will beat BAMER and OLE Piss and be in the SEC championship.

One word: Squandered.

That's what I think of when I see this team play.

quote:

The scariest thing for LSU fans right now is the prospect of this harsh reality: Miles and his staff already know what they've got and can't find ways when they're scripting game plans to work around the shortcomings.

Spot on. And very sad.

This Carl reminds me of the year of the veer. There was a big crowd for the Spring game and everyone came away with what they thought was a great change in team stratagy. That is what happened this year everyone thought that we had a great chance this year with all the speed and talent that we where going to challenge for the SEC and maybe even the NC, but as then we are fooled again by a coach that continues to lie to it's fans who by the most part are supporting him. We want to believe, but, from what we are seeing on the field we are not getting it. We are being by a coach that is bambouseling us into thinking he knows what he is doing and what he has got but, inreality he doesn't know anything about this team.

I remember last year Tubberville at Auburn was doing this same thing and we all know what happened with him. Les Miles had integrety before this year now he has tried to cover up his inability to use his talent and to tell us the truth. I think he is running scared from last year and he has the team running scared because of it.

Something has to be done and done now, if it is not then this ship is going to go down fast and there will be nothing to stop it.

Before last night Les had a true following this morning I do not know what he has. I do know this that he has lost a great many more than he has lost over this intire year not because of the loss but, because of his lying to us each week and also not putting a decent product on the field from week to week. We know that we have to talent it is that we do not have the coaching to match and use that talent to it's Potential. That is a big question to me is what has happened to Les Miles that we had when he first got here. something has happened and we demand to know what.

No need to anything more. That says it all. Great post.

I won't mention the 90s, BUT

Do any of you people remember the multiple 3 loss seasons under Saban? The struggling offenses with inconsistent quarterbacks many years under Saban? The 3-2 bowl record under Saban? Getting blown out by Alabama in Tiger Stadium - at night?

OK - so this is no 07 team, but it is clearly also no 08 team. I'll take 05 and 06. With a very young, inexperienced quarterback what more should we expect - who would have predicted a better record than 9-3, 10-2 before the season?

This whole situation was predictable, look at the 05 recruiting class. It was sub par because Saban hung us out to dry. (BTW those of you who keep on praising Saban for all the great things he did for this program, which he did, lets not give him a pass for the damage he did in the way he left) Saban was a major cause of a sub par 05 class, and then our star recruit from that weak class turned out to be a thug and really set us back at least 2 years. Think about it, JJ is a number 3 QB this year if things go according to plan, instead he is starting and yes has a deer in the headlights look against top SEC teams. DUH!! The kid is all of 19 years old!

You guys need to get over yourselves and realize that it is still a great time to be a tiger!

I couldn't sum it up any better. I am however questioning how truly talented our lines are after watching Florida's and Bama's. We are not in the same league as Bama insofar as getting a pass rush and the same can be said comparing our o-line to Florida's. And I still understand that our starting QB is playing for Jax St., but JJ could do a lot better with some decent o-line play.

It definitely looked like amateur night at Tiger Stadium...

"LSU looked unprepared for Florida and its game plan".

"Meyer and his staff...outcoached Miles and Co."

"The Tigers didn't seem to grasp how valuable every second was after falling behind. They failed to get a play off before the end of the third quarter"

"LSU looked like a program run by amateurs"

The title of your article is clever Dubois. I don't watch many movies so your compare and contrast lost me a litte. I agree about the Tebow fumble that wasn't called. The refs had as bad of a mental game as LSU. Other calls that were missed were Chad Jones helmet to helmet hit on the Gators failed fourth down conversion, Alem lining up offside even after the 5 offsides calls in the first half. The grabbing of the shirt on the TD pass, etc.....
The SEC deserves better refs. There were bad no calls on both teams. When was the last time that Fla. scored only 13 points and won? Thanks again Dubois for another great read. I'll say it again..... we're fortunate to have a knowledgeable unbiased football guru such as you. Continued success.

Sorry. Our defense did a DAMN good job considering being on the field ALL NIGHT!

JJ, time to mature......quickly. The newness is wearing off and it is time to play like an experienced QB, not one with just a start at Arky and GT.

Couldn't agree with you more!!!
years past Perril-WHO would of been sub in/out with Jefferson kind of like Russell and Flynn.
I was please with Defense all night.

You have to wonder what is wrong with the O-Line.... at times we couldn't block a 3 man rush. Whatever they are doing at practice obviously needs to change! These noticeable problems happened in all of the previous weeks but it slides by with a win!

Another great statement Carl!

It's excruciatingly painful to listen to Lesley speak. The other evening I heard this gem on Channel 2 sports. This is word-for word what our head coach sputtered from his mouth...

"I want...uh...Tiger Stadium to be...uh...as...uh...loud and...uh...enjoyablle and...uh...as...uh...noteworthy as...uh...anything that...uh...at anytime that...uh..Tiger Stadium has ...uh...got it cranked!

I couldn't believe what I had just heard so I went back to the TIVO so I could write it down to see if I could decipher his message.

If you had difficulty following that, what do you think the players are doing when he addresses them? Do you think the players bring in tape recorders and replay his comments later, like I did, to figure out what he said to them in meetings?

For the last 3 years I have been complaining about discipline (lack thereof) and it may have finally cost us a game....
9 damn penalties and most of them avoidable.

Basically 120 teams in NCAA...LSU is # 117
[quote]LINK ]
I put that on "coaching"

Having said that:
when the D holds a team to 13 points,
that team should win...the O and, even more, their O plan,..left a lot to be desired.
