talent is an issue but it is not the only issue

our interior DL is very spotty versus the run and does not rush the passer well

on DEs dont hold an edge at all and struggle beating their man in rush

our LBs seem slow and reactive, their tackling is inconsistent

weeks is going to be a player but he is undersized and gets washed out at bad times

speights and penn are just average

Perkins is an enigma and it is clear they are struggling to overcome opponent’s schemes to account for him

our corners that know what they are doing are simply physically not good enough, coverage and tackling is inconsistent

our corners that might be physically good enough are not mentally ready and coverage and tackling are inconsistent

safeties look like they are thinking too much and arent elite athletically to overcome slow reactions

as a unit our secondary can not play straight man and get lost in zone responsibilities plus they struggle tackling

our blitzes are telegraphed and are ineffective

so there are talent problems, ability problems and the scheme is not being taught well, too much uncertainty

honestly I am not sure these things are fixable because there are catch 22s and unintended consequences all over the place

the defensive staff got shuffled before and after the spring game and again at the last minute before the season started when the DL Coach Jimmy Lindsay got sick and it has clearly affected the staff, the staff doesnt seem cohesive and the scheme teaching reflects that

defensive misses in the portal this season have been critical

Duke’s defense is better than ours. Let that sink in.

I remember people on here talking up how we were going to be so much better on the edge b/c Cain taught the wrong technique...but last year at least our edge players looked like good players. This preferred style by BK has been an utter failure.

Did you mention bad tackling? You need to include bad tackling.

Is that about physical size, technique, energy level, or bad coaching?

We got beat on the same toss play 3 or 4 times because the DE refused to set the edge and crashed on Jaxson Dart instead. Infuriating

If we make half of the open field tackles we missed tonight we win

With all due respect to Lindsay, that was a bad hire that wouldn’t have made any difference for this putrid D. The guy has no record of real success at this level. House needed another yes man on defense to go with Cooks and Steeples, and Lindsay fit the mold.

I forgot about the DL coach carousel from 2021 to today
5 DL coaches in two seasons

three LB coaches since 2022

DB coach seems to be missing badly too

this might get way worse this year, I expected kiffin to expose some things but this is historic

everyone is going to try to do to LSU what OM did tonight and some of this may not be fixable with these players and these coaches

Everyone knew Cooks was an insanely bad hire in real time.

Steeples is a recruiter. Getting Wingo alone has earned him a lot of rope.

House is supposed to be the LB coach and our LBs are always out of position and missing tackles.

shows how good the offense is

and we had a play at the end for a WR to make a game tying catch

Speaking of Hilton, did I see him being carried off the field? I think he may have hurt a knee landing after that last throw.
