Who decides the replacement, Alleva? Isn’t this the same kind of bull shite going on now?

comparing Cam Cameron's offenses to Steve Spurriers is kinda silly.

Agreed, just saying that with the right QB, they had a hell of a offense. Miles problem was he couldn't keep a competent QB

I think you at least have to make sure there is some interest. LSU was reportedly going to make Jimbo the second highest paid coach behind Saban and he turned it down immediately. In November. And it was only after being rejected by Jimbo that LSU went after Herman, who at that stage had seemingly already made up his mind about Texas.

Miles was fired in September and they didn’t even start gauging interest until months later.

No, given the benefit of your crystal ball and rear view mirror, I would have obviously hired Dabo or settled for Saban.

Yes, but screwing up an OC hire doesn’t set your program back years. And a bad OC is a lot easier to part ways with.

Worst case scenario, you fire him if it doesn’t work out and you still have Miles who was doing a good job with most parts of the program.

If this is truly the timeline, and I’m not doubting you, this solidifies how fricked the whole program is. I’m dumbfounded that LSU does not seem to be the destination that many on Tigerdroppings would have people believe. If this is due to the weakness we have in the AD spot, then we don’t improve until cleaning house.

Las had to be fired

You wanting Les fired doesn't mean firing Les was good for LSU. Why is this shite so hard to understand for some. This was not the normal firing you have with a coach who has a couple losing seasons or no bowls or no top 20 teams. LSU firing Les, as things stand right now, was a mistake. If you don't improve the team with your actions, then your actions are a mistake.

If you mean doing it above board, you do it like Florida State. Tell the head coach this is the way it's going to be. Find your next guy and hire him as a coordinator, and name him "coach in waiting".

In Les' case, it could be a new OC, or it could have been Aranda. You negotiate with Les from a position of power, assuring him he will be handled graciously and with respect, and make it clear you want a smooth transition of power in the next several years. Let Les know he will be taken care of. But that his extensions are done, and he's on the last contract. And the new guy will be involved with meetings with the AD and administration from here on out.

If Les chooses not to go with that, his only option would be to quit, and there's no buyout. If Les accepts his fate, he works for the kids, and apprentices the other guy in HC duties as time goes on. And Les moves "up", into some ceremonial post. Or even as the next AD... which I think should have been the move.

Its sad that this has to be explained to people.

I was 100% ready to try something else, even with the risk that they might be worse than les(easy to be).

The offense was stagnant and people wanted change, nothing wrong with that.

But you damn sure don't fire les to hire O. I think the risk of firing les was warranted with guys like jimbo, herman, fleck, Mullen etc etc.

You mean when we only interviewed 3 coaches total. Oh I remember just fine.

If the reports were true...jimbo turned it down because of buyout and length of contract. Salary was not part of the problem. Which I can't fault him for...you don't leave FSU without a really nice offer

You're absolutely right, but Les shouldn't have been fired if there wasn't a better plan than O.

Alleva having a 2 month head start on the coaching search and ending up with O is truly terrible.

You don't fire a coach like Les unless you already have a replacement lined up. We should not have fired him 4 games into the season, but they should have been gauging interest all season. The way we handled the whole thing was pathetic. And let's not forget the A&M game in 2015.

Les needed to go but not unless we knew damn sure we'd be replacing him with a home run hire.

If Les is a better coach why hasn’t any other University hired him?

yep. Hiring O would have been like replacing Saban with curly hallman. It was time for Les to go because he refused to fix the offense, but that doesn't mean go out and hire a coach that no one in FBS or even FCS would hire.
