It’s disingenuous to talk about how the coaches see everything in practice in regards to “TJ Finley vs Max Johnson”. And not admit that O likes Brennan for a reason. I have been one of the biggest advocates for Finley to start going forward on this board. But there is a reason O says that “Myles Brennan is our QB”. While I shutter at the idea of Finley transferring given the fact that Myles has 2 more years of eligibility after this one, I trust coach O and his decisions. Let’s go Tigers regardless of who is playing QB.

If Myles doesn’t get hurt, he would have gone after this season because of his gaudy numbers shaping up. He could still go after this season if he recovers.

I mean O also said the defense was better than at any point last season.

So you can continue to hang on his words but let's wait until we see action

He has to say Brennan is the qb. What else is he supposed to say?

Brennan is the QB until he’s not.

He’s always liked Brennan. I remember and interview last year with Jordan Palmer taking about his congratulating phone call to O when he got the job here, Jordan became close to O through his brother Carson. He asked O about LSUs prospects of winning asking when would he get the QB necessary to take LSU to the next level. O responded we already have the guy and it’ll just be a couple of years until he’s ready. He was talking about Brennan, this was before Burrow was even a possibility.

I’m guessing there is some loyalty to a guy who sat and waited his turn. Most QB’s and even any player would have left in today’s world. We see it everyday. The funny thing is Brennan has done nothing wrong. He was one of the highest rated QB’s in college football. I guess it’s wrong to be loyal to a player who waited his turn. Now flip the script and tell me why a certain LB has not lost his job when he is completely overwhelmed on the field?

Remember when O pissed Brennan off by going after Tua?

Good info. And for people that want to criticize O and his decisions, he was savvy enough to bring in Burrow. He has an eye for QB talent regardless of what his haters say. Urban Meyer couldn’t even see what Burrow was, O did.

The elite 11 he was in broadcast the first 2 weeks on NFL network if I’m not mistaken. Everyone interviewed there also spoke highly of him and about how his study habits a prep work was what you see from guys who separate themselves from good college players to real NFL QB prospects. A lot of the frail body discussion here early on with Brennan has led to a lack of faith from the base here and they’ve just added other non issues to that to bolster their bias. Brennan is performing better than any QB not named Burrow at LSU and better than anyone period to start a career here. Of course we’ve had Hodson who was great but didn’t nearly shoulder the offensive responsibility Brennan does in this system.

I’m not certain how true that rumor was. I know when Tua was asked about it he said nobody from LSU had contacted him at that point.

Brennan has a problem with 3rd down. If he cant get by 0/10 then he wont be on the field if others can do better. He has trouble sustaining drives. His passing game is pretty good but what gets you the awards is winning. He was unable to march down and get a TD against Moo State when we needed it and we wiffed at the half yard line at Mizzou.

They call that the IT factor and we dont know if Finley or Johnson have it or not but Brennan is not converting and playing consistently to complete drives when they are needed. I will agree that we scored enough points to win every game but we lost 2 games that could have been won by the offense with one more score.

I said in a couple of threads that the defense stats did not improve a whole lot against USCe but at least we got stops. And add to that going 8/10 on 3rd down and clocking almost 40 min of TOP went a long way to helping that defense.

Taking a selective stat without context doesn’t disprove the overall performance which is undeniable. 0-10 isn’t the total number anyway, it’s one game and many of those 3rd downs were short yardage runs. If you’re going to use that to bypass everything else and not include the running plays or the actual number it’s incredibly misleading.

by Goudy numbers I assume you mean that over 300 yards he passed for and all three games he started and the 11 touchdowns to 3 interceptions am I correct?

But news flash I hate to break it to you they're sparky Brennan isn't going anywhere after this season

Les Miles made some boneheaded decisions on which QB should get the ball. Anyone with a set of eyes could see that.

O has not made those same bad decisions. Say what you want about Etling but he deserved that job in 2016 and 2017. And, well, the Burrow decision speaks for itself in 2018 and 2019. I'm very happy that Finley played well, but let's not forget how great of a season Brennan is having. Brennan was shaky in the first half of the opener. You can't really fault him for anything else, including the 3rd down and RZ struggles - those struggles stem directly from play calling (and execution). Finley got this staff and team at just the right time, when they decided to really dig in. Whether or not they continue that focus if/when Brennan gets his shot again remains to be seen.

Every great quarterback will tell you 3rd down is all about the quarterback. Brennan has to get better on 3rd down.

They will also tell you a good running game is a quarterback's best friend.

The kid can only do so much when its constantly 3 & 8 and we can't pick up the blitz and are constantly one dimensional.
