I don't think it's necessarily about the long ball. It's the lack of passes in the middle of the field.

Nuss has attempted 5 passes through 2 games in the middle of the field. 2 were behind the LOS, 2 were about 3-6 yards down field, and the only pass in the middle of the field 10+ yards down field was the last play of the USC game.

I think hitting passes in this area will pull the safeties up and/or make the LBs back off the line.

Deep ball is there already. That's why you always see two safeties over the top and never in the box so far this year.

JD5 forced safeties down because of his running abilities. We need the threat of a run to bring them down in order for our speedy WRs to take the top off the defense. If Nuss pulls it and gets a few 15-20 yarders a game (which were definitely there vs USCw), it'll force them to at least respect the possibility and bring those safeties closer to the line.

This doesn't make any sense. If the issue is that we need the run threat it doesn't have to come from the QB and in fact shouldn't. All this notion that you must have the QB be the running game is absurd. If that's the look they're giving like BK said you should be able to run against it with the line and RBs.

Wasn't suggesting the run threat has to come from the QB. Just that there has to be a run threat to bring the safeties down. I was just pointing out that if Nuss tucks it on a few, you'd see the same effect.

Wow! coach Kelly read my post! Dandydon reported from a press conference Kelly said Nussmeier needs to add vertical passing to the great things he's doing already.

I am very humbled.

Well again to be fair if you look at majority of the routes we are running, they are not running a lot of routes over the middle. Most of the passes are being designed to get the ball out quick to the outside.

Having Hilton back is going to help with this as it likely draws a safety or linebacker to shade toward him and could free Taylor or Lacy in the middle on a seam or Dig.

I would like to see more Deep Crossers and Dig routes but its honestly hard for me to complain about the passing attack right now with how efficient we have been with Nuss the first two games.

Need to get Anderson(#1) moved around to get a LB on him and drop a crossing route in his mits.

We sorta did that in second half against USC. But stopped so that we could develop the run.
