Nussmeier is a poor downfield passerby DBGFacts are facts. In 2024, he had the most inaccurate passes of 20+ yards in the SEC. He had the the 6th worst uncatchable pass %. He had the 7th worst completion %.
So then why did the so-called “experts“ in college football rank him as the number one preseason Heisman Trophy front runner and first round pick in the NFL draft.?
This narrative makes no sense at all. If he was that bad, he shouldn’t have been all hyped up preseason. Personally, I didn’t see much out of him last year that I was impressed with other than a few good passes here and there. So I don’t know where all the hype came from.

I got flamed to shite for saying this last season. I was a little bit baffled at all the hype he received this season. Nuss can have great moments but he’s average just go look at his performances vs A&M, Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss until the 4th quarter in 2024. That’s who he is. We were all hoping for a large leap, but I’m afraid he has reached his ceiling.
All that said he is still good enough to win this team a championship. We just need to block and run the damn ball.

Is madking in here yet blaming everyone else but nuss?
I trust his opinion since he was the one who melted his face off when Jayden came back for year 2

I’m sure he’s somewhere around here lying & being disingenuous

Nuss, Arch Manning, Klubnik, Lagway, and Sellers all got crazy preseason hype bud. Coincidentally they’ve all been fairly terrible this season. It’s just hype

So far in 2025, he’s 1/9 for 23 yards and 1 INT. 5 inaccurate passes.
For our purposes, he should get credit for that dime he dropped in the basket to Brown vs Clemson. And that’s the frustrating thing with Nuss- we’ve seen him make some beautiful deep throws. He had a couple vs UGA in the 23 SECCG. The ones to Hilton in the 23 and 24 Bowl Games and vs OU. And again, the one we saw to Brown. He CAN do it, especially with the WR speed we have. He’s just not very consistent with it.
But for this offense to work- HE HAS TO AT LEAST ATTEMPT SOME. Every game. It has to happen.
What we did last night just doesn’t work. It didn’t work when Daniels was here in 22 and wouldn’t throw downfield. It didn’t work last year until Hilton was fully back. Defenses play up and can easily both crowd intermediate routes and also have everyone available to play the run. We are tying a hand behind our backs playing without any schemed up deep shots to back the Safeties up.

He needs to set up in the pocket, but the oline is so bad at blocking that he ends up running around, throwing short, and sidearm alot. The receivers don't improvise and break off routes enough to get open... they don't create space like many.of our past receivers did.

He could absolutely be more effective if the offense was called better. Sloan doesn’t play to his strengths and often seems to play right into his weaknesses.

Anderson, Brown and Thomas have no issues creating space in man. Both they and Nuss sometimes struggle vs zone. One of the backs missed sitting up in zone coverage last night that ended in a busted throw. And there have been times when the WRs have needed to break routes to sit in space and haven’t.
Sometimes it’s the QB’s job to find the windows to throw on crossers and slants. Nuss had a couple of good zone window throws vs Clemson, but has struggled more to find them the last two weeks. Teams are going to keep dropping and using that against him until he can figure that out. And it’s a double whammy if a defense can live in zone because everyone is facing the LOS and can immediately attack downhill on run plays.

Facts are facts.
Nope. It's bullshite and childish to say things like this.

The staff is doing that Nuss does best and avoiding what he doesn’t do well.
Perhaps some of the coaching choices do betray that they at least feel handcuffed by some of Nuss' revealed weaknesses.
But, to say he is a poor downfield passer is silly bullshite.
He is, without question, a very inconsistent and streaky quarterback. And how does one gameplan around that when one also cannot run the ball? (ETA: Sorry Coach Kelly, when you cannot run the ball consistently, get hard hardage, but can, occasionally break open a big run or two during a game to make the stats not look quite as atrocious as reality feels.)
That is the conundrum we face. We have to rely on the QB. When he is hot, the team is hot. When he is cold, there is no remedy for it. I mean, we could bench him and try another QB, but that opens up an entirely different can of worms.

thought he turned a corner last season
I was wrong as usual
He is the same package as last yr. He'll have a great game this year once or twice. Hopefully its the right one's.

Doesn’t change the fact that Nuss had a better year 1 than two Heisman Trophy winners
Posted on 9/14/25 at 2:23 pm to DBG
He’s also just terrible at finding the open receivers down field. I just don’t think he has it upstairs.

Nuss was our highest graded player on offense last season.

He wont win waterboy of the year in jack shite this year. The way he has played this year was the same as last year. Those two guys had "meaning" in most all of our wins when they played. Name 1 game where Nuss made you feel like it was on him to win it dating back to last year.
Ole Miss 24'....thats it. Say what you want about padding stats against scrubs. I'll take those guys in year 1 before I take nuss
The point is 9 and 5 never hurt us in games, they help lead their offenses. Nuss is killing this offense and its getting worse.

Hope he gets better, this year can be special.
Pulling an
aTm
And now pulling a
Florida
With those totally stupid ints is all I need to see.
We could start the freshman Hurley at this rate, given the D we got and get the same or better output than we getting now.

Lol
Watch the routes. The rcvr is pre determined. All the other rcvrs are going thru the motions. That's why when the primary is covered he can't find any secondary to open. Anderson is running backyard routes to get open. It is usually luck when Nuss finds him open.
I wouldn't be defending our passing game if I were you.

It’s your opinion vs a large sample size of data.
Gonna side with the stats here.

Nope. Pass pro is fine as usual. Run blocking is the crime against humanity.
Receivers are fine. Nuss’ issues are pocket presence of a lizard / rarely makes the right choice in the zone running options & has downfield accuracy issues, esp on vertical sideline routes.
