It's always been clear he's not a starter...pen guy at best.....Johnson knows this....so why'd he start him

I think he’s giving him a shot, not sure if it was an agreement for him to come here or not but I don’t think he will keep him as a starter by the time SEC play comes around

Johnson obviously doesn’t know this, he pitched too much last year too. His pet he brought with him. Was hoping new pitching coach would convince him otherwise but he’s dead set on Cooper being a good pitcher.

First down vote for being the guy that thinks he knows more than the guy being paid to manage the team.

Cooper and Gervase carried the staff last year

Lol exactly. Might not be a weekend starter but to say Cooper isn't good is asinine.

Without Cooper, LSU wouldn’t have gone as far as they did last year. Terrible start last year, but was a reliable arm out of the pen to finish.

You cannot, I repeat cannot ever be curious or ask a question about anything an LSU baseball coach does… ever. So shut up.

Wes really likes Cooper, too. Even did extra work with him coming into the season to make him more effective. He was deadly before the season. You can see it work in spurts now but he's just not a starter.

I think Jay and Wes both understand Cooper's value as a reliever. It hurts nothing to extend him early, let him see more situations, etc. The payoff is down the line.

Jay promised Cooper he’d give him a shot. Said it in an interview last week

Cooper had the lowest ERA tabulated in all the scrimmages, so he looked real good for the start, but like all intrasquad comparisons, it’s hard to judge whether it was good offense, or bad defense; or the reverse. I think that’s the case, here. We suck against lefties, and why Cooper had such a low ERA in scrimmages. But it is looking like that was fools gold.

Exactly. He sucked in his start last year against Tech (whole team stunk it up but regardless) and then became hands down our most reliable arm alongside Gervase. Great fall and spring. He earned it.

I don't think people remember just how little pitching we had last year and how solid Cooper was. He was steady Eddy outside of the 1 start and that last game.

Just a pointless waste of a couple starts when we’re looking for guys in that role. Probably not a big deal but wasteful non the less.

I really like cooper but starting him against 8 RH batters was dumb no matter the opponent.

Because in order to win a national title, you have to be able to win an 8 team tournament in a ballpark where pitching matters more than hitting.

That pitching needs to be developed. And now is the time to do it.
