Trying to get a win and letting Cowan get some extra work to keep him sharp. He didn’t get to throw much this past weekend. Not his fault. And he’s got a rubber arm, so he should easily be able to bounce back from throwing tonight—even if he goes 4 innings—and be good to go Saturday or Sunday.
AND, there’s the hope he shuts them down for a couple innings, out bats get us out to a big early lead, and he can come out and Jay can throw some other guys that he either wants to see, wants to keep sharp, or doesn’t care about burning for the weekend.

While I agree, 1) Simpson should have caught that, and 2) it was a terrible pitch that he hung middle in.
