Max LA state income tax is 6 % and 9 states have no state tax at all. If you want to be competitive with Texas, Florida, Tennessee and others, this is a good move.

The top marginal rate has not been 6% since 2021. It was 4.25% and we now have a flat rate of 3% as of January 1.

What about the other college students at Louisiana schools who have to work to pay their bills, even their tuition?

Can they be exempt too?

Every single working non-athlete college student should send this lame pandering legislator a letter telling him to eat shite.

Why not be competitive with them in regards to all income earners, rather than just mercenary college athletes?

You know "Rich" people pay no taxes.

Are NIL contributions tax deductible?

work and pay my taxes also. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND your opposition to this.

HOWEVER, the schools we compete against are having their states pass these laws, and if we want to stay competitive, we're gonna have to do it. No matter how much it sucks in theory.

I’m a Saints and Pelicans fan. Why do they get taxed but not college athletes?

The owners of the Saints and Pelicans are very wealthy and can afford to pay the players the salaries they demand.

Louisiana's NIL contributors are apparently too poor and must now force taxpayers to help foot the bill.

frickin pathetic.

Tax cuts for kids to play ball, not for adults working and raising families.

Most louisiana shite ever.

You're right. I was thinking narrowly on this. It'll be all players receiving NIL in Louisiana.

My point still stands. People will go ape shite if LSU is losing recruits to bama, Georgia and other schools because they have to pay state taxes.

I was pretty clear about this.

If our competitors have this advantage, we have NO CHOICE other than to afford LSU the same shot at these recruits.

I'm not saying this is right BY ANY MEANS at face value. But we simply can't afford to not do this. We won't be competitive in recruiting.

I don’t care if we’re competitive in recruiting or not. If that little bit of state tax is the difference we were never getting the dude anyway

I don't even know what to say to this. DAF response.

Facts remain, this isn't going to teach anyone a lesson about paying taxes. All it is going to do is raise the price of poker for LSU and the fans. Like others have said, donors will be grossing up for taxes to overcome what others can offer. Unless they change the rules, this isn't changing and we are only putting ourselves at a disadvantage by not being on the forefront. If you think this is about teaching kids/people about entitlement and paying their rightful taxes, you're fu(king stupid.

If athletes don't have to pay for school, I'm not. It's just not fair

Who gives a frick, ya dummy? What’s more important good infrastructure, good state economy, educated workforce or LSU winning a handful of games?

Not to mention the legislature, with our approval, raised state income taxes several years ago when they removed the federal tax liability deduction.

First of all, I live in Virginia, so this impacts me ZERO PERCENT.

And I bet you (and a lot of others who oppose this), will be bitching and screaming THE LOUDEST when we are losing recruits by not passing this law.

The ironic thing is, a lot of people won't realize why we're losing out on these recruits if the law doesn't pass.

Don't worry though, it's almost guaranteed to pass and become law.
