Why doesn't the AD have authority to fire a coach?
“LSU bylaws, there is a section, it's section 1, article 7, subsection L, subsection 3.. -for the termination of employee making more than $250,000, it would be subject to board approval. There was no formal board meeting to fire Brian Kelly” Per the Locked on LSU podcast.

That section also says written notice without a timeframe.
I agree. Leave it to the lawyers.

Thanks, just what I needed to know. Now, that I think about it, when I hired a coach, the board did need to approve it, but they only met once a month, so you could have coaches working for a couple of weeks before they were "officially" hired.
IMO, this makes it look like LSU might be in the right here, in that he wasn't officially fired until the Board approved the move.

Subject to Board approval is the key phrase, does the by-laws state must be approved at a formal board meeting? Could the Supervisors make that decision in their suite on Saturday night disgusted by the on-field massacre and instruct the AD to fire him? Would that constitute Board Approval?
Woody stated that the decision to fire Kelly was made Saturday night after the game. Is he dumb enough to proceed without getting the approval of his Superiors?
