No Explosive Plays & Trick Plays To Score

I’m all in on doing whatever it takes, but it is concerning that we had to resort to trick plays in order to score. Change my mind.

The lack of explosives is a major issue. Not sure if it is Leavitt/receivers/oline or combination thereof.
We know lane has the ability to scheme them up.

I feel the same.

Biggest concern is probably the Ol who isn’t breaking holes for the run game and not blocking long enough for deep passes

Yea I think so... Receivers are wide open nearly every play, Leavitt throws some beautiful balls, his processing is a little bit slow/locks in sometimes, but I think he's definitely capable but isn't given enough time.

Don’t think it’s Leavett, he’s been throwing dimes deep down the sidelines when given the opportunity. So I think it starts with the OL giving him time to let the WRs get down the field. Next, I think it’s the WRs. Got a few fast, explosive guys, but they’re small. Which hurts in 2 ways—1) they’re more likely to get jammed at the line and get off their routes, 2) they are tall enough to go grab balls out of the air against smaller corners.
We really miss Trey-Dez here. Not only because he’s strong, fast, and tall enough to get downfield and make those 50/50 balls into more 75/25 ones and make the big plays himself, but it puts better DBs matched up with our other WRs. With him out there, we’re having their #2 corner on Watkins, #3 on Harris, etc…in man. Probably a double team on Trey’Dez. In zone, he gets more attention and opens up the field for Watkins and Wilson to find soft spots. Which Watkins is really good at even without him.
But without him, we’re having to use Wilson as a more vertical threat on the outside. Like last night, he gets a little separation down the sidelines, Sam throws an absolute dime, and it still would have taken an amazing catch to complete the pass. I think Wilson is best used getting him the ball in space horizontally, and then him turning up field and making a guy miss.
I really think Lane and Charlie had to revamp the offense when Trey’Dez went down. I think it would look a lot different with him in there. Not just due to his production, but the other guys would be used more effectively and have better production themselves. But we still do have explosives. Winnie has had several already. We just don’t have explosives that end in the end zone. And we’ve been pretty bad inside the red zone, not being able to punch it in. Have a lot of rushing TDs, but most of those have been inside the 5. When we get inside the 20 and the field shrinks, that’s when our lack of big, physical WRs really rears its head.

I agree. Our red zone plays have not been very good. Especially absent is a power running game to get us close to the goal line.
