Our RPI might not be high enough to get us an NIT home game, tbh. May be a 6-7 seed.

You don't know how it works do you Skippy
You realize shity teams like the swac champ get into the tournament by Auto bid right? Tournament is not the best 64 teams in the country.... Go watch baseball or cry about our head football coach

I would actually prefer a road start. LSU has won at least two NIT games on opponent's courts, and has yet to ever win an NIT game in the PMAC.

Not coach Wade...

Wade: God knows we can't win away from home. Hopefully we'll get a home game (in the NIT). Maybe we can win that.

How about a rematch against Stephen F. Austin

If we win the NIT Stormy Daniels just accept the trophy since she knows 69 pretty well

There is the CBI tourney. I think it has 16 teams.

The rules changes for the NIT should make these games really fun to watch. The court will be opened up and should benefit our style of play especially Waters.

We were projected to be anywhere between a 2 and 4 seed prior to last night. That gets you a home game. I don't think a loss to Mississippi State drops us. Hopefully we can stay in that four-spot range and get a home game

Below is a site for NIT Bracketology. This guy is by far the most knowledgable person out there when it comes to how the NIT works and what types of teams they take. He has LSU as a 2 seed right now, and that is up to date after last night. His twitter is a good follow, also, as he posts updates as games are played each day and how they affect the NIT.

I love the bracket he has us in

LSU vs. Syracuse with a trip to MSG on the line based on his bracket. That would be awesome.

The 2018 NIT will feature four rules modifications:
• The three-point line will be extended by approximately 1 foot 8 inches to the same distance used by FIBA for international competition (22 feet 1.75 inches).
• The free throw lane will be widened from 12 feet to 16 feet, consistent with the width used by the NBA.
• The games will be divided into four 10-minute quarters as opposed to two 20-minute halves. Teams will shoot two free throws beginning with the fifth foul of each quarter.
• The shot clock will reset to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound instead of the full 30 seconds.

I’d rather the lane be kept small. Besides that it’s great.

NCAA 68 teams
NIT. 32 teams
CBI. 16 teams
Surely, LSU is ranked in the top 116 ?
The NCAA tournament isn't the top 68 teams, either. Because of automatic bids to weaker conferences, like the Patriot League, the SWAC, and the MEAC, the 13-16 seeds in the NCAA are likely to have a worse RPI than most of the NIT.
LSU is in the NIT, but I'm expecting a 3 or 4 seed. That should get us a home game, unless the PMAC is scheduled for a tractor pull or something similar.

You think our road struggles are a hangover from Jones or something else?
This team did not defend well enough to win a lot of games away from home. Assign the blame for that to whatever you want (except the asst. coach who was primarily in charge of the defensive game plans) Defense travels. Shooting comes and goes, particularly on the road.
Go look at the top road teams in the country and you'll generally find they are also great defensive teams.
Virginia only lost once away from home this season (in the brutal ACC). They are also the #1 defensive team in the nation. Until this year, Auburn (under Pearl) had never finished above the bottom 4 of the SEC. This year they won the league and were very good away from home. Why? It's the first year they weren't in the 100's in defensive efficiency (they're current 36th). Tennessee had the most road wins of any SEC team this year (despite being picked to finish 13th in the league). They also are 3rd NATIONALLY in defensive efficiency.
Jones only had one really good defensive team during his time at LSU (14-15). That team finished 32nd in defensive efficiency, and for much of the year was sub-30 in that category. They also went 8-3 on the road...the only season in the Jones era LSU had a winning record on the road. Do you think that is just a coincidence?
It's easy to be a decent offensive team. Hell, even with last year's disaster of a season LSU still ranked in the top 1/3 of the country in offensive efficiency. But the GREAT teams that can win anywhere are the ones that defend. Generally, if you look at the teams in the Final Four year in and year out you'll find they are excellent defensive teams. How did South Carolina make it to the Final Four last season? They were the 3rd best defensive team in basketball. What was the catalyst for LSU's run to the Final Four in 2006..the best defense in the SEC and 3rd best in the country!
Bad defense = road struggles...every time
