Type of recruiting structure. The top ten programs are considered triple A with the next level down at double A status meaning a player was good enough for Alabama or LSU, but missed out due to 25 limit. They will transfer up as soon as they can.

Everyone else ends up in single A programs with opportunities to move up as well. It will become common for players to log time at three schools on their way to the NFL moving forward.

The good part for the players is that they get new compensation yearly based on their perceived value and schools that have a team need.

This will be very lucrative for players and give them opportunities to earn money before the NFL where they may never shine.

I'm 100% down with buying all the players we need.

I'll even earmark my Aramark budget for OL/DL.

NIL will not be nearly as big of a deal in baseball as it is for football. To start not nearly as many schools care about baseball and secondly there is a way for the top players to get money straight out of high school. It’s called the minor leagues.

ETA: I’m an idiot that doesn’t read good. Please ignore.

I love that. Says so many things in one concise statement.

I wasn’t talking baseball at all, just using baseball terminology. This should have been evident with my final point about the NFL.

I thought they could only use the transfer portal one time without sitting out a year?

but it does bring up the point that baseball might be an arena that we can be very competitive in in the NIL era. Seems it would be much easier for Lsu to buy a baseball NC than a football NC especially when you consider how many recruits we lose to the minor leagues.

NIL will be a huge advantage for LSU baseball. We might be able to get recruits to come to campus, that would normally go to the minors out of high school. Why go through 5 years of MiLB play, making $60,000 a year, living out of motels and busses, when you can come play baseball for LSU, and make hundreds of thousands of dollars, living pretty damn comfortably too.

Minor league baseball should serve as a cautionary tale when it comes to this path college football is headed down. There’s a reason minor league players don’t make big time salaries. The public interest just isn’t there. If college football players become mercenaries, the NIL deals will dry up quickly, as will interest in college football.

Not sure about that.. maybe for some of the midround guys.. but MLB 1st rounders get anywhere between 1.7 - 8 million signing bonuses.. even some 3rd rounders are getting 1.5 or even 3 .. I dont see any NIL deals in that range for a sport that just is not that popular on the national level. The ROI will not be there for the companies to dish out that kind of money.

A vast majority of minor league players do not make $60k per year, only minor league free agents that sign two way contracts make anywhere near that amount.

weekly pay (for in season only) is:

400 for rookie short season
500 for single A
600 for double A
700 for triple A

triple A = 2800 per month for 5 months = 14K per year
double A = 2400 per month for 5 months = 12K per year
single A = 2000 per month for 5 months = 10K per year
rookie = 1600 per month for 2 months = 3200 per year

the difference is signing bonus, which is slotted depending upon where a player is drafted.
