first off...those jerseys would be illegal to wear on the field. The numbers have to contrast the other color. Those numbers are not discernible thus making them illegal.

It's fashion. Nike is capitalizing on the fact that most 17-25 year olds think it is necessary for their college team to have a blackout game. Will never be worn on the field.
