Broussard and Hughes weren't the problem with our infield, at least not defensively. The reason we couldn't turn double plays this year was mostly due to Slaughter at 3B. Jake has a great glove, but his footwork and arm are liabilities. Broussard has actually been very good defensively. Seems like he's always lined up in the right spot, but I suppose that could be coaches shifting him around.
Curious about Sanders and the draft. He could go higher than we think.
I hope Storz takes over our closer roll next year. I'm tired of trying to force freshmen to throw 6-7 innings every week and wearing them out come postseason. I doubt Storz will be able to handle enough innings to start considering he didnt pitch this season or last year.

I agree next year will be a loaded deck for LSU.
I see the lineup a little differently
Rotation
Walker
Hilliard
Labas/ Storz
Closer- Peterson
Catcher- open competition
First Base
Second Broussard/ Hughes
Short Smith
Third Slaughter (I expect a huge breakthrough for this guy)
LF Cabrera
CF Duplantis
RF Open
If we can find a couple of guys to drive in runs next year and a catcher, I expect a top 5 national seed and a deep run in Omaha. The blueprint is simple,
Pitch- check with that staff
Play defense- check
Clutch hitting- that's what they'll have to prove

Watson needs to stay another season. He's not ready. Hess either.
Both of these guys will have tough choices but it's not because they are not ready. If Hess leaves he'll be in an MLB bullpen by year 2. The decision will just come down to how much someone is willing to pay them. Expect both of these guys to get drafted in that mid range and then both get over slot money to leave. The good for LSU is that they could both come back and get more money next year

There have been much better relief pitchers than Hess that havent done this.

This incoming class is excellent. There should be a few guys that could play from day one. If Hughes can’t improve his bat I would like to see someone else in the lineup.

Duplantis is a junior. He's not coming back.

I think Hilliard is the Friday night guy. Walker was great last year but he will be rusty and he just doesnt have plus stuff like Hilliard does. Walker and Labas are very similar pitchers, great location guys but Friday nights on the road in the SEC are a different animal. I think when Hilliard went into Auburn on a Friday night and beat Casey Mize that told me all I need to know about his mentality

This team has overachieved based on what they lost and then the injuries. I think this is the only time that it’s acceptable to say wait til next year

I don't think defense was a problem with middle infielders either, but neither give you anything offensively. You can't have 3-4 giveaways in the lineup and we do.
To the guy who said he knows Watson's family, I believe you. I don't know his family, but he will be a top 50 pick. As will Hess. Unless they just feel insulted in the negotiations they won't be back given their draft positions.
Hopefully Smith returns healthy and I'm gonna tell everyone right now, Bianco's bat is too good to not be in the lineup.

So how many weak hitting Centerfielders and Shortstops did Pulmonary recruit for next year?

Duplantis, Watson and Hess are gone.

I’m gonna look to Peterson as the Friday night guy. He’s got the stuff to be a Friday night guy and he’s built for long innings. Now that his control has gotten good, I think he becomes the number one guy on the staff.

Bianco and Cabell aren’t weak hitting. If Watson is gone, I expect one of them to fill the outfield spot in addition to DiGiacomo.

Hess and Watson should stay but both are 100% gone.
Duplantis should go if drafted in top 10 rounds. If not stay.

We tried Peterson as a starter already this year and it didn't work. He's been much better as the closer. Let's learn from the Hess situation and leave him where he excels.

Hughes shouldn’t be starting unless something crazy happens
Posted on 6/3/18 at 1:23 pm to FriscoTiger
Duplantis has that Blake Dean feeling to me. He'll be back.

Does anyone think Peterson stays as the closer? I like his temperament as a closer

I'm 50/50 on this. I don't think his tools translate to the next level, so I think it comes down to does he value playing minor league ball and chasing the dream more or does he value another year of college more.
