Do you plan on getting shite hammered regardless of outcome? Canal/quarter is the place to stay.

Poydras is usually where we stay. We don’t get too crazy. Right next to the SD. If you’re willing to pay the price of admission for tickets which will be throug the roof, might as well bite the bullet on the hotel.

An LSU win won’t bring the hotel prices down.

I made it from downtown NOLA to the Cow Palace in 1 hour and 12 minutes for the last home game.

Drivewise was bitching at me the whole time that I was doing over 80.

Have you looked outside the French Quarter? Uptown, Warehouse District and other surrounding areas are close but without the FQ prices and cancellation policies. NOLa is a convention and tourist town year round and the French Quarter is prime pickings.

If you make the trip, be sure to check in here for best food recs.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned but if you don’t stay downtown LaPlace may be an option.

There are a few hotels there and it’s about a 20-30 minute drive to New Orleans.

I just crunched some number, looks like if I do 80 mph, it is exactly one hour away. Check my math though

Brand new hotels. courtyard by Marriott ,home wood suites and a remodeled holiday inn in gretna across the river and a 10-15 minute Uber to the FQ. But DO NOT STAY AT THE LAQUINTA INN across the street. Trashy AF

I've also noticed outrageously punitive cancellation policies for hotels in and around the Quarter. Is this normal? Any advice?

Its all about location, those places are extremely convenient, you wouldn't need to rent a car. You would just Uber to and from the airport and walk the entire time.

Now if you look at hotels in Jefferson Parish, Metairie or Gretna, prices will be much cheaper.

Tell me more about these restaurants on the lake where the locals eat....

They really aren't any great ones out there. Not bad for some seafood with a nice view, but there are 50 better places in the city.

OP, go to the food board and read through the Nola threads to get a feel for the options.

Biggest advice - Uptown > French Quarter. There’s a lot of awesome spots in the city outside the French Quarter that most tourists miss out on.

Wow, you must be a certified genius. Have you also figured out how to make the traffic in BR and LaPlace disappear during your trip? And of course the state police wouldn’t dream of stopping you during your record breaking drive, Bandit.
Some of you morons are so fricking stupid you’d argue about anything.

Doubt prices will come down.
As others have said, VRBO or Air B&B or look outside Nola proper for a lower priced hotel (Meterie , Kenner , LaPlace , Mandeville, Covington )

That being said, you’ll have way way way more fun in the FQ , along Canal , or along Poydras

Lots of streets are. Don't think GRSJ is full of potholes.
