New Orleans Questions from Clemson Fan

Hello, LSU,
It's been fun watching your team this year and always been a fan of your program. My opinion of LSU fans was cemented in 2003 when I went to your game in Columbia and watched y'all stomp the Gamecocks. What impressed me was how your fans took over prime tailgating spots all around the stadium and brought the Louisiana party with them.
I'm hoping you whip Oklahoma, we whip the yankees, and we get to play in New Orleans. I think a Lawrence-Burrow shootout would be a game remembered forever because they will have quite a few more shootouts on future Sundays. If it happens, that game really might be equivalent to the Magic/Bird Michigan State-Indiana State game from 1979 when viewed 15 years from now.
My question is about hotel prices and policies in New Orleans. The prices are through the roof, which is to be expected.
If LSU and Clemson both win, will those prices come down? I am wondering if the proximity of your alumni to the Superdome means less hotel demand? With all the Sugar Bowls LSU has been to, I figured this Board would have a good read on that.
I've also noticed outrageously punitive cancellation policies for hotels in and around the Quarter. Is this normal? Any advice?
I realize my wallet should be pulling for Oklahoma because with an LSU win, this will be the highest priced National Championship ticket of all time. But I can't bring myself to do it. Sick of Oklahoma (just like the rest of the country is probably sick of Clemson).
Thanks.

I'm staying at the Hyatt Centric. It's really nice and walking distance from everything.
As far as price? Good luck man. They know a game will be in town.

You don’t necessarily have to stay in NOLA. There are plenty of hotels available all around the outskirts of the city, and even in BR, which is only an hour away. Park early and Uber.

I can’t answer your question about hotels, except to say avoid it all by using VRBO or something.
You bring up a good point about the possible historic significance of Burrow-Lawrence. That could be cool. Lawrence better bring his A game, because Burrow will.

You must condemn your univeristy’s use of “Death Valley” before we can answer your questions.

Are you planning on flying? If so, maybe try something near the Metairie Airport

I think we should reserve that argument for when we're all drunk and incoherent in New Orleans.

Air BnB close to a street car line.
That's all you need and you'll get more of an overview of the city and what it has to offer.
There is a lot more than the Superdome and French Quarter.

The draw on the hotel supply may be a bit less if LSU is playing, but not enough to change the hotel prices. There will be plenty of Tiger fans coming down even if they don't have tickets. If LSU makes it, this town is going to go an ocean of Purple and Gold with some orange mixed in.
If the prices in the city are too high, look at AirBnB, or check hotel prices in Metairie, Kenner, or even further out in Slidell, Hammond, or Laplace.
My advice though: suck it up and pay the higher prices and stay in CBD/WHD/FQ. The best part about big sports events in Nola is being able to walk out your hotel to all the action.

GFY, Death Valley belongs to LSU. This wasn’t even a debate until loudmouth Dabo started running his cock sucker.
Hotel prices aren’t going to come down if LSU makes it, because 90% of LSU fans will be coming from at least an hour away, and will stay that entire weekend in the city.

Good post - thanks
As some have said - New Orleans is going to be very expensive and will gouge the fk out everyone with every opportunity

Metairie Airport
It's in Kennah, bra.

If so, maybe try something near the Metairie Airport
Everything downtown is tourist driven, restaurants, hotels, bars.
You should try to get to the lakefront for one meal and eat where the locals do.
However, you are going to want to stay downtown to be in the center of everything. Anything from the dome to the river two blocks at most from Canal will do you well. Event pricing anywhere in the country is going to increase.

How many people are you coming with and what ages? Let me help you

They will only go up. I live on the Northshore of New Orleans. I have hotel reservations, because I enjoy drinking & having a good time in the city and don’t want to drive home. I have numerous friends who live on the Northshore who already have reservations or are making them if we win via Airbnb or vrbo.

Try to swing staying downtown or in the Warehouse district as being in the action near and in the Quarter and Dome is half the fun. It's why the Super Bowl has been in Nola so many times you can walk everywhere as a constant party swirls around you.
If not, the Elmwood area of Jefferson Parish has a few extended stay hotels but they tend to stay booked. But it's relatively closer to the Dome than other suburban areas and has restaurants close by in Elmwood shopping center for a quick bite.
Good luck I'm looking forward to your losing !

A lot of people stay on the Ms Gulf Coast and visit the casinos and great restaurants we have here. It’s a hour drive to the city

I hear the lower 9th ward is nice this time of year.

Don’t try to stay in the quarter. The ones in the warehouse district and even the few towards uptown probably won’t have such a strict cancellation or minimum stay requirement.
I think it’s worth it to stay in the city, but if the pricing is too hard in the budget, consider staying in Metairie. It’s a shirt Uber ride to downtown

Anything downtown is going to be expensive, you can get a room in Metairie or out by the airport for cheaper if you don’t mind ubering to the action
