LHP Zach Lasuzzo signed yesterday. The kid has potential, I have watched him pitch a couple times. Had shoulder surgery last year and has been consistently clocked between 88-91 mph since high school ball.

More importantly, does he needlessly dive for fly balls...?

He made All State Honorable Mention
LINK

He also made All Northeast LA Baseball as well
LINK

He played in the LA HS All Star game but I couldn't find an article to link for that.

why would a LHP dive needlessly for fly balls?

From that All Northeast LA Small School Team, these may be guys to look at in the future:

quote:

Cade Thomason, Oak Grove, Soph. — averaged .366 at the plate with a .860 slugging percentage. He had 34 hits, including 12 homeruns with 42 RBI.

quote:

C John Clay Reeves, OCS, Soph. — hit .448 with 47 hits in 105 at bats with 16 homeruns and 64 RBI.

quote:

OF Mark Laird, OCS, Fr. — hit .462 with 48 hits in 104 at bats with 15 RBI.

You've got to keep up with this board.

(One poster, I won't disclose his identity but his initials are Lester Earl, always questions any LSU player who dives for a fly ball. He contends it's just show boating. Sorry.)

I see you're still sore over that bitch slapping I gave you for Coleman's pitching in relief at Georgia. It turns out you were right; he couldn't pitch effectively the rest of the season.

He is a good kid and comes from a really good family. He is an all around athlete. He played in about 5 different spots last football season. Zach was a solid pitcher and has a few things to work on, but he is a good addition to the team.

When I was playing (the 60's) I wasn't a pitcher, but coaches then claimed that teaching 14 - 17 year old boys to throw sliders and curves would result in damage to arms and shoulders. Wonder if that's true.

Yeah, younger pitchers should be concentrating on being able to locate and change speeds, any pitch with a lot of arm torque is going to damage a younger pitcher's arm because the tendons aren't fully developed to be able to handle the strain

I'm glad you liked that. I'm still laughing about it, too.

Except now days, baseball is played all year so the strain is put on the arm constantly rather than just in baseball season.

I think it's sad to see so many sophomores and juniors in high school have surgery because of over-pitching and starting so young. My cousin who pitches in college had surgery his junior year. Couldn't even pitch most of his senior year.
