re: Never seen so many grown men cry over a 10-2 football season

Do you think LSU's players are "satsfied" with 10-2, or do you think it chaps their asses they did not beat Florida and Alabama? If they aren't (and they are NOT, I am fairly certain), then why should the fans be satisfied?
I'm sure the players wanted to go undefeated and I see no reason why it's a horrible thing for fans to ask what went wrong. Should we enjoy 10 wins? Sure, but seeing our division rival in prime position to get another crystal dampens my enthusiasm about 10 wins and a Peach bowl.

You're missing the point
These teams are almost flashes in the pan compared to the consistency that LSU has had over the last decade
Arkansas was a top 5 team before we obliterated them last year. They had a subpar season this year. I'm convinced that you will NEVER see a season that poor as long as Miles is here.
Auburn is 2 years removed from a national championship and had a lackluster season.
Florida had an impressive year but they weren't top 10 caliber last year
The point is we're top 10 and finish in the top 5 almost every year. We still have a chance to get into a BCS bowl game and have a top 5 finish this year.

Arkansas got obliterated by the top teams they faced last year and beat up on those below them and also going through a coaching upheaval
Auburn had Cam a 1 hit wonder, Chiz has never done anything outside of that 1 remarkable player
Florida is going through a transition of offensive systems trying to convert those brought in for the spread into what Muschamp wants.
Of course LSU will never have seasons like that because Miles brings stability and recruits kids who fit the system he runs along with the type that Chavis likes.
The issue this year isn't injuries, every team faces injuries and suspension. Losing those players hurt and probably cost LSU the Florida game but they did not cost LSU the Alabama game coaching did. Injuries are part of the game and honestly LSU has been lucky as in recent years LSU has remained relatively injury free.
I believe is biggest thing about this year. It isn't like last years National Title game where Alabama dominated from start to finish. This time LSU dominated and because of some coaching decisions LSU lost.
Is 10 wins a good/great season? Yeah but not when your goal is a national title. There are no trophies for second place (really they have them but they are pointless)
Long way from Hallman days but again the Hallman days were a long time ago and LSU has been a premier team for over a decade now so our expectations have been raised. We no longer just hope to stay within 14 of Alabama and Florida we expect to beat them. We expect 10 wins, we expect to challenge for national title, we expect to win, when we don't it is a disappointment and a feeling of failure. No team has more talent than LSU, teams have equal talent but no team has more.

Powerman, what a dynamic and game changing thread bro. I'm going to save it so one day I can print it off and read it to the little ones as a bed time story.

I'm as upset about the game management snafus in the Bama game as anyone else
But while we have these occasional game management snafus, you can't argue that the coaching staff is doing a lot of things right to have the team at the level they are.
This was a young team that was decimated by injuries and we reeled off 10 wins in the SEC and were competitive in every game. That's respectable IMO. Nothing to be embarrassed about. And I'm pretty confident we'll be in the mix next year with a possible chance at an SEC and/or national title.

Nit trying to argue you down and be a dick powerman but Lsu won 6 games in the sec. There are 5 other teams with the same or better record. And being in the bcs title talk is no big deal. Hell look at how many teams were in the mix a few weeks ago. All the title talk in the world Means nothing til the end of the season who is left standing and playing for it.

But the point is we're in the BCS title talk almost every year
We were a couple plays away from being a shoe in for the game this year
I like our chances of being in the mix next year as well
If you can't appreciate that type of consistency then I don't know what to tell you

I understand stand your points, I really do. But tdeucen had a great post and put it in great perspective in my opinion.

Enjoy it

It's just absurd to act like the season is a failure if we don't win a national title
The fact that we are in the mix every year and we'll probably get to another NC game eventually is pretty promising
Great perspective is the Dinardo years. shite even the Saban years weren't this good.

The lack of perspective of some of our "fans" is amazing
I keep saying it: some would rather be right than see LSU succeed
Our strengths coming in to the season were going to be:
OL
playmakers in the secondary with a Heisman finalist
Special teams
Power running game with depth at the RB position
DL play
That was supposed to cover:
A first time starter at QB
Question marks at WR
tons of freshman getting minutes all over the field
Implementing a more diverse and balanced offense
So how did the original plan work out? On the fly miles had to adjust every week and LSU still won 10 games. Preseason strengths became weaknesses, preseason weaknesses became strengths. Yet people still bitch because they want more. So frick them.
Miles trusted mett to throw on 3rd and ten in the 4th yesterday and he delivered a strike to OBJ. That was very encouraging for next season in a multitude of ways.
I don't hang around slaughter houses watching them make the sausage and I don't always like the way LSU gets a win. But I love to eat sausage and I love it when LSU wins

quote:HaHa...perfect post. I love the "whistling past the graveyard" bit. I myself do not feel very celebratory about this "10 win" season, because honestly, this team does not deserve "10 wins." Yes, there are many other teams that would be thrilled with our record, but we are LSU! When did our pride and desire to be number 1 cease? Being top 5 or top 10 is now the standard of our ultimate success?
If the posi-Tigers want to continue to whistle past this graveyard, have at it. But don't get on your high horse about those LSU fans who expect something more from their team.

Dont think or act like it's a failure or crying about it. Just not jumping up and down celebrating that we just won the 2012 moral national championship cause we barely beat a horrible Arkansas team and are on the outside looking in for a chance at a bcs bowl like some on this board are doing. Not talking about you but there are others.

I really think you underestimate the amount of adversity this team overcame to get to this point
The fact that a BCS bowl is even a plausible scenario right now is worth smiling about
This could have very easily been 2008 all over again

The brand and style of football is not enjoyable while it is taking place. You get to sit back after its all over and thank luck or whatever that you somehow got 10 wins, but at no point do you ever feel comfortable while the games are going on.

It was a meh kind of year IMO. No one on this board thought we would lose to Florida. Alabama loss, I get, but we outplayed Florida for almost 3 quarters and came up empty. 2 point win against arguably the worst Auburn team ever and struggling with Towson and Idaho??

How old are you? Seriously.
I had a blast at the 4 SEC games I went to.
I can't believe we lost to a crappy Fla team. But we had a crappy QB at the time.
I'm still crushed by the Gump loss (I was there in the NEZ watching it come at me). If Alleman makes a short FG the game is different. And I think Chief screwed up badly (same yesterday).
But we can't win all the time. I find it hard to believe some of you can function in life with as much importance as you place on this.
Some of you are just deluded.
