2018 Defensive Line Class
Chasen Hines - Moved to offense
Nelson Jenkins - Bust
Davin Cotton - Bust
Dare Rosenthal - Moved to offense
Dominic Livingston - Bust
Travez Moore was in that class, also. He was a transfer, and it looks like he'll end up contributing this year.
We got two great players out of that class, but they are on offense. It's amazing how almost nothing came out of that class for the defensive line.
ETA: Just noticed Cherry was in that class, too. He still might pan out.

So basically these guys have given up on any chance of a career at the next level. Are they even going to graduate with a degree. Does this mean they plan on coming back next year? To me this means they got passed by younger players.

Cherry is an intriguing player. He sort of reminds me of a faster version of Lewis Neal.
He doesn't seem to have a clear-cut position, but could add some very beneficial versatility and unique abilities to the DL.

high hopes for Eric Taylor at DT

I don't consider kids like this "opting out". They might as well say has entered the transfer portal. There's really no reason for even using the term opting out for kids with no pro aspirations and this late in the juncture. Guess "opting out" is gonna be college football version of "breaking news".

Ok..enough of that phrase. He quit. Did the Texas DB “opt out” during the 3rd quarter of their game the other night?

He was never gonna play here

Nelson "quits on his team 11 days before kickoff" is more like it.

Yeah...he was buried on depth chart. LSU has enough depth with the return of Farrell.
Logan, Farrell, Ika, Evans, Cherry, Fonua, Roy, Guillory, Taylor.
That's 4.5 deep at DT. Any yes...O included Fonua in his Dline depth on radio today.

Funny how he got scared of COVID right after Ferrell came back

I think this gives the kids some more options...like keeping the scholarship longer, eligibility, etc.
I agree that he's probably not opting opt for COVID reasons.

Not surprising but still a bit disappointing that he never developed or caught on. He was pretty highly touted out of high school and had some good offers, so I don’t know what happened with him.
