So, I'm pretty sure that means classes on campus. Cause theoretically they are open now just having o line courses.

Misleading headline
Go find the rest of Emmett quotes

It leaves options for conferences to go it alone

We, guess this means we add University of Phoenix to the out of conference schedule.

I am pretty sure most university presidents already said there would be no sports without students on campus. Don’t forget these athletes are students first.

I saw VP Mike Pence state that very thing a month or so ago . He stressed the student part rather than the athletic part.

classes on campus

People should realize that, for the most part, this is what universities are planning for--at least in some form. There are lots of complicated logistical details to work out, and some classes, particularly the larger ones, will likely remain on-line. But colleges REALLY want to get back as close to normal as they can this fall, for a variety of reasons. Any self-respecting institution realizes that watching instructional videos in your pajamas on your iPhone is not college, and they want to transition away from that to the greatest extent possible by August.

Now, as I said, there are lots of operational questions to address about how to do this safely, and just about every school has a faculty/staff/administrative committee working on this right now. It goes without saying that many normal procedures will be changed to limit the potential for infection and contagion among the campus population. And, of course, this could all be upset if (God forbid) we see a big surge of infections and hospitalizations over the summer.

So I see two major implications of all of this with regard to college football, one good and one bad. First, the good news: if the minimal condition for playing ball is that the university has students on campus, most institutions are actively planning right now for this to be the case. But that comes along with the bad news--I have a hard time seeing colleges inviting tens of thousands of outside visitors onto campus in the fall. So my expectation would be that football games, if they are in fact played (which I think has a reasonable chance of happening), will take place before very small numbers of socially distanced spectators. It could be just players' families and/or students, well spaced out in the stadium. I could be wrong about this, but that's my guess.

These schools cannot survive without football $$$. They’re going to make damned well sure there is football this year.
