But the real travesty in both cases is that there weren’t even flags on the field. For a replay official in Birmingham to retroactively decide to call a penalty that is not only potentially game-changing, but also a ticky-tack chickenshit call, is just ridiculous.
I liked when the ACC was transparent and let us hear the booth. The SEC will never do this for obvious reasons. They’ve been leveraging replay to fix games for years.

Targeting booth reviews when there is no flag on the play need to be eliminated.
If we're going to review plays for missed targeting calls, why can't we also review for missed facemasks, missed pass interferences, etc.?

Not to mention he lowered his head, but the crown of his helmet is not even what made contact .
CBK should be able to appeal this. Someone with common sense should be reviewing the appeals.

we were trained to not to duck our heads by slamming our face guards in each others chest both on the run horizontally we found that that didnt hurt us and taught us not to ever duck your head it worked no body wore a neck brace !

What I see most….
The runner ducks and lowers his helmet, making the defender duck.

Valid point. The rule needs to be rewritten.

Agreed. This is the sensible solution.

No argument with what you are saying. I think it should be wholly rewritten to be clearer, more concise, more sensible & easier to apply in game.

If the player that got hit isnt concussed and out the game, it wasnt targeting.

The ejection needs to be eliminated.
My biggest gripe with the ejection is that it’s a variable penalty depending on when the foul occurs in the game.
Weeks’ penalty occurred on like the 3rd play and he gets ejected for basically a whole game. Chester’s happens at the end of the 3rd quarter, he sits for 75% of a game.

The ejection needs to be eliminated. Absolutely ridiculous to kick kids out of a game when most of the time its inadvertent contact
It also only needs to be called when its blatant that the defender is trying to behead someone. Like Major Wright against Oklahoma in the 2009 Natty
The "launch." Targeting without launching or forcible contact needs to just be a regular penalty.

This. We've had an answer for this for decades. You have a rule that handles flagrant fouls. Just incorporate it into targeting calls. Exactly the same principle as "roughing" vs "running into" the kicker.
Auto-ejection for targeting was an over-correction driven by political pressures surrounding CTE. They just need to recognize that and adjust.

I was even considering the terms incidental and intentional for this rule.
