Because no team that wins a conference like the mountain west should ever be a top 4 seed in the playoffs with a bye. Pretty much any of your better power 4 teams in each power conference would destroy that schedule year in and year out. Yes Boise State was good, but the only teams they played worth a shite this year they lost to. Boise should not have been given a bye.

Hell not 1 conference champ won after the bye. Oregon, Georgia also lost. I’m afraid the media will push conference champs should get automatic byes. If they don’t, an undefeated team may sit players or the games go away.

More emphasis needed on strength of schedule in order to qualify for one of the slots in the playoffs!

I love the 4 team format,
Now we can argue about whether 8, 10, 12, or more is the right number. Personally, I think 8 is the right number.
But 4 just isn't enough. There are other good teams that deserve to be in a playoff.

You are correct that all bye teams did lose, but in UGAs defense they had to do it with a true freshman thrown in the fire. ND had a huge QB advantage in that game. I knew it was going to be extremely tough for UGA to win.
