Well, if we pay them more then they will be less likely to transfer.

This would allow any player to transfer once WITHOUT having to sit out a year.

Personally, I think this would be absolutely horrible for football and make "free agency" impossible to deal with. The theft of talent by the P5 from the mid majors etc will all but seal the fate of the irrelevancy of some leagues.

Hell yeah. Here comes the Burch Pain Train 2021!

They can change what college they attend now. They are treated, in that sense, like every other person and college student.

They just aren't eligible to play sports for a year.

But they should be eligible to play sports for a year. You can do every other activity you do as a college student when you transfer. Sports should not be any different.

There are a few minor caveats they should limit it to

Coaching changes (head coaches)
Sanctions
Or limit it to your last year of eligibility.

Don’t make a kid burn his last shot to play on the bench.

Or they could just let any player transfer once without having to sit out a year so we can do away with some of the Byzantium rules of the NCAA...

The rule benefits non P5 schools more. They will be gaining more kids than they lose, just like currently. The biggest issue is the likely tampering that happens from P5 schools with other P5 school's players.
Also there are limits and schools still need depth and kids in the program for more than a year and that is done through high school prospects. It's being overblown.
Besides it's already this way essentially. The rule would just take away the subjectivity of waivers for immediate eligibility. Who thinks Justin Fields should've really been granted a waiver to play immediately?

I think You want to strike a balance between what’s fair to the players and what’s good for the game.

Its not like pro sports let you become a free agent at will. It’s more fair than Major League Baseball’s rules about team control.

I believe most college players primarily sign because of the school.

I would be it's half and half. Players are committing to coaches in most cases. Yes you have players that from birth they are raised on school X, and dream to play there. But for the most part, those players are committing to coaching staffs.

True.

Even professional sports don't let people just choose to change teams when they want.

You know why? Because they signed a contract. Kind of like signing a scholarship.

If the coaches don't have to sit out, the players shouldn't either. Now I am not for players being able to have multiple transfers, but we also don't see head coaches making multiple lateral moves in as many years.

Grad transfers are already allowed to do this. If a player hasn't graduated by 3 years nowadays, he is fricking off.

Sanctions

This rule, imo, goes along with players being able to xfer due to sanctions.

They only have so many scholarships they can give out. Just like LSU, Bama and other big P5 schools, you are going to have to take scholly's to give scholly's. You can't just grayshirt or have a bunch of walk on's. So even if players get poached, the coaching staff is going to have to come up with a scholarship to give them.

Why not? Dude almost won the heisman, why isn't he a perfect example on why this is a great thing to allow?

IMO, people who are against this are just the people who believe there should still be loyalty in sports.

Loyalty is for fans. And your loyalty is to the TEAM/SCHOOL not to the players. Players always have been, and always will be looking for greener pastures, and the best path to the next level.

And we think Bagmen play to big a role in CFB now?

Just wait till a kid starts at Tennessee as a Freshman, makes all-Sec on a losing team, and ends up at Bama the following year so he can "win a championship".

How many transfers Upward do you see now?

90% of people transferring are going to lesser schools because they couldn’t play at a bigger school.

yes, players bond with coaches, but the coach is from the school, and I think that drives the majority of the kid's decision.

Of course, great recruiters make a difference. But if great recruiter Coach X was from TCU instead of LSU, would a kid from Lafayette or New Orleans go to TCU instead of LSU? I highly doubt it.

Football scholarships are not for 4 years...they are renewed year to year and you are not guaranteed to keep it...thus, they are not like contracts professional athletes sign so why the frick should a player be bound to play the whole time at the same school?

Mel Tucker says hello. As do a lot of mid-major coaches.
